A benefit for the homeless at the Downtown St. Louis Hooters restaurant drew fire and was ultimately shot down Tuesday. The St. Patrick’s Center’s “Dine or Donate” event was set for Thursday night.

St. Patrick’s Center cancelled the event after receiving what a spokeswoman said were a “few dozen” complaints.

St. Patrick’s Center is a Catholic charity that helps provide food, clothing, shelter, and job training for close to 9,000 people in need in the St. Louis area every year.

Totally insane, to me - is that they had to receive complaints .
 
It is a clear sign, the management of this paritcular office of Catholic Charities needs to be replaced. I recommend giving your hard-earned money to better groups.

Was it really necessary to post the picture, complete with the hula-hoop?

Seriously, the phrase “Hooters Girls” paints the picture well enough. We all know what they look like without having to be reminded with a photograph.

I know I’m going to probably be outnumbered on this one, but I don’t see a problem with it. Hooter’s is a company (who has worked with the catholic center in the past for events) trying to help the community they live in. For the Catholics that don’t agree with it, you have a choice to not participate/donate to this charity drive. St. Patrick’s probably has other charity events.

St. Patrick’s helps 9,000 people and probably needs all the help they can get. My problem with the people complaining is: are they going to make up for the money that would have been made at the event?? They complained because it was against their morals but was it worth the center losing money (I know I don’t know the full story, so maybe those that complained are donating to cover…but the story didn’t mention it).

Most people on here will probably disagree but Hooter’s isn’t that bad. My family has always gone to Hooter’s since I was a little child and I have never “lusted over the girls” like another article stated.
 
I’m curious –
Would there have been the objection had the waitresses dressed modestly, even if for that one evening? Or was it just the overall perception/reputation of the restaurant chain? Seems to me that if the waitresses had already been involved (in modest dress) with the charity, why something similar couldn’t have been repeated. The “sudden” objection, in this case, would baffle me – but not the objection on grounds of (im)modesty.
 
I am a sixty five year old grandma ,My family have often visited Hooters and i have never seen anyone mishandle the girls there ,we have found them extremely polite and friendly .Whats the difference if there was a walk a thon or five k race in shorts and bikini tops would that be acceptable to donate money to ?>Hooters to me means noisy car horns or party poppers so its all in the perception,by the way the chicken wings are the best .

Because women should be reduced to their body parts. It treats them as sexual objects.
 
Perhaps if they want to help this agency, they should have shown some respect. They want to promote themselves and not just helping. When are we going to recognize the enemy for what it is? This kind of thing does not look for the Catholic Church.

You do know that many hooter girls are Christians right? They even have Bible Studies at work.
 
Really?? I too am in the minority I guess…the place has good wings, and while the outfits are skimpy, I don’t think that alone makes it equatable with a brothel or something. You’d be seeing far more skin still at a beach or swimming pool typically.🤷
 
I’ve never been there because of the outfits the waitresses wear but my saintly mother has. She likes the food. Go figure. 🤷
 
The outfits worn at hooters are designed to be provocative. This almost always causes sinful thoughts. The sinner and the waitress are both at fault.

Supporting this business could also be conisdered a complicit act. Is it really worth eternal life?
 
Really, why do you think this restaurant is called Hooters? It has nothing to do with owls!
The article says this:
“The event’s opponents felt the Hooters image of scantily clad waitresses serving food, was hardly in keeping with the Catholic faith. Waitresses in ultra tight tank tops and short shorts rode a scooter and twirled a hula hoop outside the restaurant to lure customers Tuesday night.”
Is it considered normal behavior for adult women to ride scooters and twirl in hula hoops while wearing really tight short clothes? What if one of these women was your daughter or your sister? Would anyone say that it was alright for them to be ogled in public to sell a few chicken wings? Even if it was for charity?

Speak for yourself. I’ve never been to any Hooter’s Restaurant and didn’t know what their uniform consisted of. The girl in the photo didn’t appear immodest to me - more like a team member of a girl’s basketball team.
 
My sister was a waitress at a Hooter’s restaurant years ago. She knew how to look after herself if a customer tried to touch and/or look at her inappropriately. Many of the girls her age working there were attending college too so people cannot say they are all dumb blondes or common other stereotypes about beautiful women. As she was an adult, my mother and others could not stop her from working there.

Most men go there for the food and to look at the women. The uniforms worn by the wait staff are modest compared to what I’ve seen on professional sports teams cheerleaders or other famous women.
