A “more concrete authority” than Jesus Christ, Paul or John? Those words say what they mean and mean what they say! Our Lord said a CHILD can understand the things of the Kingdom.

As for denominations, Rome is simply one of many clamouring for supremacy. And she sure does clamour!

I do not say we can believe whatever we want, but what the Bible says.

So what part of the passages I pasted did you NOT understand? I think you understand them well enough, you simply don’t BELIEVE then because you haven’t experienced that of which they speak.

Some of Christ’s teachings were taken in the worst of ways, but he never failed to teach even if it offended. Being part of the Church and free from the sin of formal heresy is essential for salvation.
That is so True

With regards to Outside the church there is no salvation it can be referred to scriptures:

First we must remember that Christ did establish His Church:
Code:
“And I say to thee: That **thou art Peter**; and **upon this rock** I will build my church, and **the gates of hell** shall not prevail against it.” *Matthew* 16: 18 DRB].

*“Thou art Peter”*... As St. Peter, by divine revelation, here made a solemn profession of his faith of the divinity of Christ; so in recompense of this faith and profession, our Lord here declares to him the dignity to which he is pleased to raise him: viz., that he to whom he had already given the name of Peter, signifying a rock, St. John 1. 42, should be a rock indeed, of invincible strength, for the support of the building of the church; in which building he should be, next to Christ himself, the chief foundation stone, in quality of chief pastor, ruler, and governor; and should have accordingly all fulness of ecclesiastical power, signified by the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

*“Upon this rock”*... The words of Christ to Peter, spoken in the vulgar language of the Jews which our Lord made use of, were the same as if he had said in English, Thou art a Rock, and upon this rock I will build my church. So that, by the plain course of the words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against all storms and floods, like the wise builder, St. Matt. 7. 24, 25.

*“The gates of hell”*... That is, the powers of darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents. For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress, the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry, heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail over the church of Christ.
Saint Peter was Our First Pope. Our Lord said “I am the Truth.” What is truth? Truth omits error, it is conformity to reality or actuality. He founded his Church and said, “And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen” [Matthew 18: 17].

“The church” would be the one the He founded through Peter, not through Martin Luther, Nicholas Storch & Thomas Munzer, Henry VIII, etc… (“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.” Matthew 28: 20 DRB])

(St. Ignatius seems to have been the first to give the name “Catholic” to “The Church.” He did this in a letter he wrote about the year 110, and in the course of the next two centuries the name caught on, and came into general use. By that time there were a few heresies in vogue, like Arianism, and “Catholic” became a name to distinguish the true Church from error and schism)

Again He told His Apostles, “he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me” [Luke 10: 16] and,“He that is not with me, is against me.” Luke 11:23; Matth. 12:30].

Saint Paul, in his Second Epistle to the Thessalonians, [1 : 7–10], states:

“And to you who are troubled, rest with us when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven, with the angels of his power: In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God, and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord, and from the glory of his power: When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be made wonderful in all them who have believed; because our testimony was believed upon you in that day.”

Also, in the same Epistle [2 : 8–11] Saint Paul says:

“And then that wicked one shall be revealed whom the Lord Jesus shall kill with the spirit of his mouth; and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming, him, Whose coming is according to the working of Satan, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders, And in all seduction of iniquity to them that perish; because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying: That all may be judged who have not believed the truth, but have consented to iniquity.”

God shall send”… That is God shall suffer them to be deceived by lying wonders, and false miracles, in punishment of their not entertaining the love of truth.

The Scriptures also speak of tradition: “Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle” 2 Thessalonians 2:14]. (In bibles outside of the Latin Vulgate and Douay-Rheims it will bee 2Thess. 2:15)

Traditions”… See here that the unwritten traditions are no less to be received than their epistles.

Basically From Matthew 16: 18; 28: 20] Our Lord is saying that his Church will never fall, So those who break away from Rome contravene what our Lord has ensured us about his Church, that She will never fall.

Other Biblical References: [John 5: 24; 13: 20; 14: 16][1John 2: 23][2John 1: 9][Luke 10: 16; 11: 23][Mark 16: 16][Matthew 10: 40; 12: 30; 12: 32; 18: 17]1 Corinthians 5: 11]

Sola, I’ve tolerated your belligerent attitude for quite some time. All I can do is point you to the forum rules of conduct, shake the dust off my feet, and hope the Holy Spirit fills your heart to bring you back to the Catholic Church.

May God bless you.

A “more concrete authority” than Jesus Christ, Paul or John? Those words say what they mean and mean what they say! Our Lord said a CHILD can understand the things of the Kingdom.
It says humility of a child, not the intellect of a child. Remember that the Bible is a high-context document (both OT and NT; this means that the Divinely-inspired writers would not have gone on about things that they assume their immediate would already know; cf. this to modern Western society which is low-context and all information is ‘spoon-fed’ to us) written in cultures (Ancient Israelite and Greco-Roman) that are extremely different from ours (group vs. individual centered, honor/shame vs. guilt) and in a different language. In our PMs, you mentioned knowing about J. P. Holding (Tekton Apologetics Ministries), but yet you must not have taken his ideas to heart because he is very insistent on the importance of things such as context and language.
As for denominations, Rome is simply one of many clamouring for supremacy. And she sure does clamour!
The only clamouring around here is you. As I said over PM, calm down. You’re bombasticity does not strengthen your arguments…quite the opposite in fact.
I do not say we can believe whatever we want, but what the Bible says.
And what makes your interpretation better than anyone elses? You may claim that you merely repeat what Scripture says, but you’re coming from a your own context (as we all do). Please, go back and read more of Holding, Christian Think-Tank and other apologists.
So what part of the passages I pasted did you NOT understand? I think you understand them well enough, you simply don’t BELIEVE then because you haven’t experienced that of which they speak.
It has been said that even Satan can quote Scripture. If you want to convey a theological idea, then don’t just quote Scripture, but also explain what you think this Scripture means. Obviously, there are many very intelligent and learned Roman Catholic theologians that study, explain and interpret Scripture. You think you’re right and they think they’re right.

Explain how you are applying Scripture in your argument and how you are getting from point A to point B in your thoughts and ideas. Otherwise, you leave it up to everyone else to guess how to interpret the Scriptural passages you’re throwing out at us. Perhaps you should re-read some of J. P. Holding’s articles and see how he applies Scripture and other ‘quotable quotes’ in his arguments.

Also, again, I’ll state this in public now. You really need to calm down. Only God knows your heart, but to this observer, you come off sounding a tad unhinged and, as I mentioned over PM, trying to make up for a lack of objective knowledge (i.e. of Church history, real Catholic doctrine, Scriptural hermeneutics, etc.) with an excess of subjective attacks and bombacity. It doesn’t work well.

Thanks for the admonitions nsper7, misplaced as they are. My conversion experience, where Christ delivered me, happened 24 YEARS AGO, not weeks ago, and so, you PRESUME to believe to know things about me you certainly do not. Studying the Bible, history, church history, doctrine, doctrinal controversies, other religions, apologetics, etc has been what I have been doing, and I’d put my library up against anyone on this forum. I have obeyed where it says study to show yourself approved unto God. You assume WRONGLY, because in your limited experience and understanding, you think someone well studied is unemotional, dead calm, and always diplomatic like a politician who follows Political Correctness. I am not under the influence of that Western error as you appear to be, mistaking THAT for proper Christian behavior. These issues are of ETERNAL consequence and I speak as someone who believes it.

Perhaps you should study the Bible a little more and you’ll find that the denomination you are considering has MANY unBiblical things about it, including having offices of a “priest” and calling that man “father”, a religious title EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN BY OUR LORD-Matt 23:8 There is NO SUCH THING as a Christian “priest” where he walks around in long robes, sports a blasphemous title and pretends to perform sacred rituals that we need to be saved. The Biblical offices are didactic and not sacerdotal. If yo want a NT type curch, go find you a solid Pentecostal Charismatic one, free from religiousity, that loves the Scripture, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, and you’ll know FREEDOM and realize that all the religious trappings of that denomination you are considering is actually an indictment, seeing all those things betray a LACK of the Spirit of God, the anointing and freedom His Presence brings.

Also, I don’t need to “explain” the passages I pasted, seeing they are at a 4th-grade English comprehension level. Either YOU BELIEVE what is said, or you DO NOT.

Gara:

1JOHN:
5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Salvation is in a PERSON, not your club. You have NO PROOF from Scripture there is no salvation outside of Club-Rome. Asserting it over and over is not proof. I have ETERNAL LIFE because I cried out to Him and he answered and delivered me. You have a denominational affiliation. I have a relationship with the Father, and worship Him in spirit and in truth, you worship him in the flesh, idolatry, and error.

Nowhere in Matthew 16 does it say ANYTHING about Rome, that it will be the headquarters, that Peter is a “pope”, etc. If you read it in the Greek you will see Christ made a play on words, and it shows that it was Peter’s CONFESSION that was the ROCK the true church would be built on. Christ is the head of the church, not some Italian in Rome! Augustine said the rock was Peter’s confession. Was he WRONG?

Sola, Club Rome doesn’t preach only Catholics are saved, in fact quite the opposite. Club Rome (as you say) teaches that Protestants are our separated brothers in Christ. It’s not Catholics vs Protestants it Christians (Catholics AND Protestants) and we’re supposed to be the salt of the earth. Instead we spend too much time bickering amoungst ourselves fulfill the great commission…

Please join us and stop hammering us in our Catholic Forums…

You have people on this thread saying there is no salvation outside of Club -Rome, like your Popes have said.

Hey Super,
I know you mean well my friend but this really isn’t the thread for your discussion. 🙂 If you wish to start your own thread I encourage you to do so as it seems you have some things to get off your chest. Remember, though, the verses that I offered in my original post… We are to LOVE one another and speak to each other in love.

Take a breath, and say your peace but in a way that opens discussion not defense. If you can catch their attention maybe you can see where they are coming from and they can see your side… 😊 If you continue to hyjack this thread I will be forced to report you to the moderators.

Thank you to those who have responded to my OP. I was a bit frustrated last night but am glad I wasn’t the only one who feels this way!!! 👍

Considering that the Church even sees protestants as brothers and sisters in Christ the above quote confuses me…
Singingbeauty you are a part of the Church that Christ established no matter how insecure, arrogant Christians may say otherwise.

Whiz, I already told you people on this forum and this very thread have said there is no salvation outside of your Club-Rome. What “verification” are you talking about. Simply READ what your comrades have posted!

Anyway, since I am being asked to start another thread, maybe I will, but not because of some threat about being reported to the Moderators! Comments were made here that I responded to, and the rest took a life of is own.

Also, I know FULL WELL what Catholicism teaches, being raised a strict Catholic, and I was being indoctrinated by priests on the side. Since my conversion to Christ and entering into the truth, I have studied Catholicism in detail, have spoken with hundreds of Catholics, debated some of their priests, and watched and read others debate them. I know what they believe and why, and I know what I believe and why. I am not new to these things, seeing after my conversion serious study followed and has continued for TWENTY FOUR YEARS. Are we clear on that? Thanks.

Sadly, it seems Super wants to hear himself talk. He doesn’t seem to have read the link posted by whizkid, because above the article, in really big letters, is “Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.”

Ahem. Oh.

I think something at the Vatican’s own website takes a bit of precedence over what is said here.

Super is one of those who doesn’t want there to be an answer. He seems to ask rhetorical questions because he’s already decided what he wants to know. He “know full well what Catholicism teaches,” apparently. Sigh. Some people just don’t want to play nice.

I thought Rome NEVER CHANGES??? Since they made “ex Cathedra” statements in the past that there was no salvation outside of Club-Rome, how can they overthrow this and say there is??? Hmmn…which infallable “teaching Magesterium” do I believe, older ones or more recent ones?

The best was when there were two and three “Successors to Saint Peter” each claiming to be the “real” Pope hurling Anathemas at each other, and the time there was a female Pope posing as a male! Yep, that “infallable, error-free, preserved” CHURCH.

😃

Singinbeuaty tries to make a point that most non-catholic Christians are not protesting the Catholic Church, and then quotes verses from Scripture about judging people and how Catholics shouldn’t judge Protestants (to which I agree) and then the very next non-Catholic Christian to post is Super Sola… Am I the only one who finds this a little ironic?

In point, (and getting back to the topic of singinbeauty’s original post) Super Sola is exactly what I have come to expect from non-Catholic Christians towards the Catholic faith. I do not believe the “most non-Catholic Christians are not protesting the Catholic Church” line. Perhaps some are not, but most is stretching. Sorry Singinbeauty, you meant well and I am sure that you do not hold the views that Sola does, but you cannot speak for all non-Catholic Christians and sadly Sola is proof of this.

Maybe I just haven’t met the right Protestants.

God bless

The kind of “judge not” that singing beauty was getting from Matthew 7:1-5 was wrong anyway. Christ was talking about a personal problem with another who may have sin in his life, and Christ said make sure your life is clean FIRST, and then you can help your brother. Later he speaks about false prophets and how to spot them and know them. That is “judgment” and the Bible encourages this, esp the Epistle of 1John.

Here is an institution that has murdered thousands of Christians and others, who now wants us all to make “nice” while she still makes her unBiblical and absurd claims to being the only real repository of truth, Christ, grace, etc.

Catholics need to go hang their heads and be quiet, knowing their own history and shame, and stop preaching, seeing Rome has disqualified herself from telling anyone anything. Rome has no moral authority to “pontificate” on anything, seeing her history is replete with scandal after scandal, scheme after scheme, murder upon murder, vast sin amongst its members everywhere, gross sin amongst its leaders, child molestation, cover-ups, etc. The Vatican is amazing–her history is nothing but sin, sin and more sin, and then she sits there and pontificates and says she is IT. Tis so OBVIOUS Rome cannot be what she claims, just by looking at the lives of her parishoners, the nations where Catholicism was IT, and Rome’s leaders–all corrupt, Biblically illiterate, lustful for sex, making liquor, power, murder, vengeance, etc. Romanism is a religion of HATE. There is NO WAY that Cult is Christ’s church. She is found in Revelation 17.

If I were to leave this post until morning, would the troll turn to stone? :hmmm:

God bless

SuperSola…If you can prove that Scripture proves the doctrine of sola scritptura, I will convert to whatever Protestant denomination you choose for me. Please provide the chapter and verse that says Scripture is the sole rule of faith.

You DID make an excuse, albeit a lame one, citing their unOrthodoxy. Words mean things, and attitudes do shine through. Your Catholic attitude spoke loud and clear there. And the Albigensians, the Cathari were far more Christian than their murderers! John the Apostle said NO MURDERER has eternal live abiding in Him-1John 3:15, therefore the whole rotten mess, and all those involved in the Crusades and Inquisitions were wicked, lost religious hypocrites pretending to be working for the Lord, doing EVIL in His Name.
I think that’s quite a generalization. The crusades to liberate the Church in the east and defend invasion from the Turks were quite justified in principle, although the execution was bad.

I made no excuse for the albigensian crusade. In fact, I’ve made no comment whatsoever about whether it was justified. It simply questioned your assertion that the Cathars were protestants, which they were not. To assert that a bunch of gnostics were more Christian than the Christian Church is just absurd.
I see you have NO SCRIPTURE to back up your empty assertions. Only the Devil would say what you say. Your church is not Christ’s church, but that “satan” you keep bringing up. Christ demanded no denominational affiliation to be saved, but to CALL UPON HIS NAME. You are calling Him a liar. How Catholic of you.
No… Christ founded a Church and he founded it for a reason. The apostles consecrated Bishops for a reason. There is no salvation outside the Church, which is not a “denomination”. It’s the Body of Christ which has only one faith, not the thousands of doctrines invented by protestants.

Quoting bible verses as if the word of God is my own personal warchest is a protestant practice. Throwing out Bible verses in a nonchalant manner to back up points that are pretty self-evident to a Christian is not my style.
And how Pharisaical as well, seeing your reaction is EXACTLY what theirs was when they confronted a man healed by Christ. They concluded He did it by Beelzebub. You are in sad company.
I’ve seen no evidence of any healing. I’m reading the unlettered words of a sadly deluded mind who’s been lead away from the church by Satan. No healing appears to have taken place.
Really? And WHO decides which passages are “objective”, you? Your statements above are ALL subjective. And they are more baseless assertions. Anything the Bible says is OBJECTIVE and FACT.
You don’t seem to be understanding. If the Bible talks about false prophets or heretics, saying “Look! It’s talking about those evil Catholics” doesn’t help. A Catholic could easily say the same about protestant doctrines, and that gets us absolutely nowhere.

If you can point out somewhere in the Bible where you believe Catholic teaching is contradicted, then we can discuss it. That’s what I mean by objective verses.
No murderer has eternal live abiding in him–1John 3:15.
We’re not in disagreement on that.
So to Hell went all the Crusaders, Popes, priest, monks, cardinals, etc that were involved in killing innocent people.
Sure. If they were involved in killing innocent people, they were indeed guilty of murder and are indeed condemned if they didn’t repent. Have I claimed that all Catholics are incapable of sin? You’re the only one who’s claimed to be incapable of sin.
Are you going to say John the Apostle is wrong and that those bloody Roman murderers did have eternal life in them while they shed the blood and stole the life of thousands of human beings?
??
Here is a passage for you. Let us see how “objective you are”

John:
8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son
abideth ever.
8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Beautiful! 👍
Romans:

6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may
abound?
6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
