Are there any Church rulings, or thoughts on the Catholic Church or Catholics and medicinal marijuana? Just wondering as I have not seen this come up yet.

I do not know of any position the Church has taken on medical marijuana. As a lay Catholic, I don’t use pot but am not opposed to medical use as I have seen others who have benefited by it, especially someone who has MS and cancer. You might want to consult your priest or bishop to see if there have been any official Church policies on this subject. God bless you.

Marijuana? :hey_bud: What’s that? 🍿 :jrbirdman: 😃

No, seriously though -not sure…

If its legal and not used for recreational abuse, then I doupt there is an issue.

The Church is not against any drug prescribed by a doctor to treat a medical condition.

Marajuana should become legal anyhow, not only for medical use. Half the country probably smokes it anyway, from all walks of life

That doesn’t make it right!!

Abortion is already legal. Are you saying that makes it right?

Abortion & smoking pot are way two different things, You cannot compare them. There is really no sin in smoking weed except that it is illegal, & even a lot of our lawmakers etc smoke weed too even tho it`s illegal.

Regular use of “Weed” causes damage to the brain. It is a sin.

Nothing sinful about smoking, no more than smoking a cigarette, what about alcohol, that kills brain cells, and other things we put into our bodies kill brain cells too or cause other maladies. Smoke a joint, You may like it:shrug:

Would you happen to have a source for that?
Just living in the world is the source, don`t U listen to the news or read the newspaper. Police I kno for fact would bust people with pot & keep it for themselves, common knowledge, look at all our sports figures, Drs & Lawyers smoke, make no mistake about it

Compounding one sin with another makes it even worse!

I agree.

While bicycling through San Francisco last year I saw a man sitting on the sidewalk in the nook of a building. I asked how he was doing. His first response was, “Do you have any weed?” My answer was ‘no’ and then he had nothing else to say. I could have offered him food or drink, but he was not interested. His primary goal in life was to get some weed. This man was ruined.

If a person can benefit from the chemicals in the marijuana plant that is one thing. However that benefit should not be used as a pretext to open up a can of worms.

God bless

Hedonistic society, anything goes
As a Catholic I assume you already know the Church teaching on the use of drugs but anyway here it is again and you will note that the use of drugs is a sin of grave matter when not taken solely for medicinal purposes.

CCC 2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense. Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law.

I do not agree with what you wrote , no grave offence at all , there is a lot of things contrary to moral law but most of us do them anyway
