As far as I’m concerned it is a very back and white issue…those priets, bishops, etc. that covered up these abuses, perpetrated the abuses or knew about the abuses and did nothing need to answer to both God and civil authority…they are black. Those that have faithfully followed Church teachings, knew nothing about these abuses and have been faithful to their vows…they are white.
Those who you are call black are part of the church , The same as you are , It is arguments like this that give none Catholics or those who attack the church ammunition , the O Poster forgets to mention or does not know is that all the religious orders involved in the industrial schools were party to braking the law , And the law they were party to was when a child was taken before the courts and given a criminal record , When there should have been no criminal record , They cannot now say they do not know ,

MichaelMac,
I’ve underlined your comments above. You inadvertantly published your comments over my name. Please avoid this in the future.
RE: Your logic, it is flawed. Just because one or a few members of an organization go off the rails doesn’t mean the whole organization is bad. If you follow this train of thought to it’s logical conclusion then because of the deeds of a handful of U.S. military personnel at Abu Ghraib prison the whole military completx is completely corrupt. The military purged and prosecuted those responsible which is exactly what the Church is doing. The Church will be stronger for this scandel as it purges itself of these individuals.
One other thing, criminal behavior is not restricted to the Catholic Church…how about:
Jimmy Bakker…adulterer, felon
Jimmy Swaggert…adultery, hypocrite, opulent lifestyle while crying broke on television
Bob Jones…Was one of the main “prophets” of the Kansas City Fellowship (The other being Mike Bickel). Despite being discredited in a sexual misconduct scandal in 1991 (Minister removed after confession of sexual misconduct, Olathe Daily News, 11/31/91), Bob Jones remains a “prophet” within the Vineyard. \
The list is endless…are you saying all of these groups are inherently evil?..corrupt?..should be disbanded? because of the deeds of these preachers and a few others that knew what they were doing? Well then what about all the good people in their ministries…are they bad as well?
