Catholic church failed children abused by priests in Ireland, says bishop

It is deeply shocking, sad and disturbing.I pray for all those who have been abused by those in a position of religious authority.

It is shameful how these things have happened at all but they have.It is good for us to admit these things have happened and strive to make them right; as in criminal proceedings to the perpetrators and help in every way we possibly can to all those who have been abused.
I pray for the abusers too of course as they will have to face God for their actions.

We should not try to defend these atrocities nor hide them under the carpet, far too much of this has happened over many years.The Catholic Church has been brought into disrepute by the actions of these clergy because the world judges what it sees.We all feel the same within the church that these actions are deeply wrong. We can never heal these poor victims adequately to restore their lives as they should be however we can pray for all comcerned and ensure we take the right steps to make sure these abuses can never happen again.We must pay whatever it costs to help these victims in their lives.

Let us hope we can restore the good name of the Catholic Church and bring all to have the love,faith and hope of God in their lives.

I was recently watching an episode of Rick Steves’ Europe and the show was about Ireland. The local guide was telling Steves how Ireland was becoming more and more “progressive” like the rest of Europe. Paraphrasing he said, “We have now legalized contraception, divorce and many believe that it will only be a matter of time before the legalization of abortion occurs.” In other words, the Church and its teaching are being removed as an intergral part of Irish life in order to become more “progressive.” Sadly, I believe that these abuse cases have set the tone to question and oppose Church authority. It is easy to understand why the families of victims of such horrific abuse would feel this way. This, people, is why justice MUST be served on the perpetrators of these crimes and those who covered them up. I love the Church and this tears my heart into pieces, but look at the damage that has already been done! The Church must do all that she can to repair its relationship with the Irish people, and see to it that this never, ever happens again. Peoples souls are on the line!

It is not due to any fault in the teachings of church or Jesus. It is due to the personal weakness of those priests. Those priests and nuns who lives a christian life (Eg: Father Damien , Mother theresa , Padre Pio and other saints) brings glory to the church Those priests and nuns who lives worldly life and those who are included in child and sexual abuses brings insult to church. It is a reality. Both realities to be admitted.

But before blaming those priests , just ask to our conscience that are we really eligible to raise hands against those priests?. Is there is any adultery happened in our life ?, at least in our mind?. Are we free of such sexual feelings?. What is our behavior if we get a 100% favorable and secret situation?.

Our faith should be like a house made on strong stone foundation and should not be like a house made on sands. Our faith should not be a one which will melt down before the pen nibs of any persons like Dan Brown or a Sex scandal case against a priest. If our faith is melting down before such events, then we are just like a house made up on sands. Our faith does not have any depth. It is only like a floating water bubbles.Then our faith is only one which originated through the influence of circumstances only and not through the pure will and belief from our side. For this purpose God gave us ability for rational thinking.

With our thinking power we should discrete the Good and Evil. We should be able to identify the real intentions of those persons making such issues and those who writes these type of books and novels. We should be able to identify the real intentions of those persons and groups who support such events and gives maximum publicity to those events. We should be able to identify the intentions of those medias which gives publicity only to the negative factors affecting the church and keeps silence regarding the good factors of church, activities of missionaries, religious and charitable institutions.

When they feels that these issues does not have any impact on our faith, then they will slowly stop and withdraw from the stage.
 
Yes, unfortunately, I do believe that the institutional Church faliled these ids.

I also believe that these guilty priests and bishops have certainly added to the sense of mistrust of the Church and the tendency towards secularism.

I really have doubts that the Church in Ireland can gain the respect it once had. If there is a chance of this it will be through utter transparency, humility, and a pennitential attitude. Let the first sign of haughtiness come out and it would be dissasterous.

We don’t need the “but, but, but”.

It will never happen, Secularism has the double weapon of attacking Catholicism when its clergy fail and ignoring it when it does good.

As for myself, I’ll admit that my faith is built on sand and hearing about these cases of such corruption and the support of pedophilia only drives me to resent the Church and not even bother trying to discover God again.
 
My faith in the Church is unshable (I think). But I will sure as heck hold members of the institutional Church accountable for wrongs, in fact I hold them MORE accountable for anyone else for “whom much is given much is expected.” They have a convenant with us and I expect for them to keep it. Hearing that canard “pedophilia is no more common in the Church than in any other Church,” just makes me so angry, because we aren’t talking about other Churches!! We are talking about the ONE TRUE Church, and I expect MORE form it’s leaders.
