Catholic Church has no problem with marriage between gay man, lesbian

It’s the intent to accept children, and not do anything artificial to prevent conception that counts. Remember that consummation is not required for validity, only for indissolubility. Josephite marriages, where there is no intent to consummate from the get-go, are valid.
 
Wow! This was the same topic that my freethinking cousin posted on a social networking site.

Of course I had to react. His claims were that no one owns “marriage” and why is the Church denying the right to marriage? Told him to form his own marriage franchise. 😃

The Church has requirements for marriage and no matter how they twist it, this will never have a chance to procreate.

A marriage that has not been consummated, can be annulled in the Catholic Church. That’s how Catherine was able to marry King Henry the VIII. God Bless, Memaw

That’s what Phemie was saying. Their marriage was valid, but dissolvable.

Once it is consummated, it is indissoluble.

The marriage can’t be annulled (an annulment says that the marriage was never valid) but it can be dissolved.

The difference is between a valid and an invalid marriage.
  • Couple A, both baptized, marry. The marriage is presumed valid and sacramental. The marriage is consummated. Later they divorce and petition for a decree of nullity. All the facts of the marriage are presented to the tribunal and it’s found that the wife had known she was sterile (or had a same sex attraction) before the marriage but had not told him before the marriage. If he had known this he would not have consented to the marriage since he wanted to have his own children (didn’t want to marry someone with a SSA). Marriage is declared invalid due to lack of informed consent.
  • Couple B, both baptized, marry. The marriage is presumed valid and sacramental. Before the marriage, he informed her that he was sterile but she decided that it was not important since they could adopt. The marriage is consummated. They later divorce and she petitions for a decree of nullity based on the sterility. Petition is denied because she knew before the marriage. Marriage is valid and sacramental and indissoluble because it was consummated.
  • Couple C, both baptized, marry. The marriage is presumed valid and sacramental. Before the marriage is consummated, he’s shipped overseas with his unit. When he returns they have both decided that this is not the life they want and they petition to have their marriage annulled. There are no grounds for a decree of nullity, the marriage is valid and sacramental. But it can be dissolved because it wasn’t consummated.

Perhaps because they recognize that their inclinations are disordered, but they are not hopelessly tied to the disorderedness of their current inclinations. Inclinations are merely that. You seem to be convinced that these inclinations cannot be overcome or replaced with ordered inclinations. Smokers addicted to nicotine have a disordered inclination, so what? Alcoholics have an overwhelming inclination to drinking alcohol. Does that mean they should simply succumb to alcohol because the inclination is unassailable?

The world is only a Twilight Zone when all hope of redemption and proper ordering is gone.

If they pretend to be straight it means they can practise homosexual relationships without anyone being suspicious.

Why in the world would anyone these days* need* to pretend?

Rather, they’d be the cool folks these days. It appears that if anyone wants to be in the “in crowd” all they have to do profess to be gay and they’ve got an automatic in.

It was purely hypothetical, I assure you. Though I agree with you, at least when it comes to women. It’s (considered) sexy for a woman to be lesbian or bisexual, but not so much for a man to be a homosexual. Though, of course, most people still wouldn’t have any qualms with a homosexual man.
