The mistake that you are making is that you are assuming that because you see someone wearing jeans at your wedding as a sign of disrespect, that God will see someone wearing jeans to mass as a sign of disrespect. The difference is that God is perfect and holy, humans are sinful and petty. What God sees and what you see are two different things.
What a FANTASTIC and graceful response~~
This is an issue that has bothered me for years and years and
years -and I’m not that old…and I’ve used the what would you wear to a wedding analogy - but maybe I ought to look for a different one.

I think the larger problem stems from the apathy about how we
approach our creator in the sacrifice of the Mass - not what we
ultimately end up wearing - but why. When we stop to think about
what we wear, and get our teenage children to think in those
same terms, then we will see a shift in dress that doesn’t
mandate a cress code.
:gopray2:

Dress codes should be implemented. Put two bouncers at the door of the Church, anyone who is wearing stuff that is physically revealing is denied entrance. Simple.

Casual is one thing, but if coming casual, people should come 'nice" casual. It is summer and I think things are a tad more laid back, but common sense should tell people to be clean, neat and to dress MODESTLY. The way some people come to church is (IMHO) an insult to Our Lord and His Blessed Mother. Somehow there is not a full realization by some that they are in the presense of THEIR LORD AND THEIR GOD.

If Jesus invited you to dinner, how would you dress (be honest)?
Honestly, I wouldn’t dress any different than my everyday clothes. I don’t think Jesus would care what Iwas wearing, and I would be so happy to see him that clothing would be the last thing on my mind,. In fact, Jesus is already with me everyday, so I doubt my grubby sweats would surprise or offend him in the least. 🙂

Gracia et Pax Vobiscum,

I believe many are confusing ‘taste’ with ‘modesty’. Jesus held to Jewish modesty standards of which emphasized ‘humility’.

Dress-codes should emphasize ‘modesty’ and not ‘cultural’ tastes.

Pax Vobiscum.

I think the “where you are going” part is sometimes taken as more important then the “how we are dressed for Mass” part.

If people have plans for a day at the beach after Mass they sure would not find there bathingsuits as the way to dress.😃 Yet to a lesser extent many others will just find it more “convient” to wear their shorts and play clothing to Mass so they don’t have to return home to change.🤷

Hollyweird has always played up the so called rebel without a cause…notice tho when they give each other awards how they dress…how ;many of these dysfunctional ‘artists’ wear dirty jeans and weird hair dos on oscar nites…it takes guts to say on this thread…yes I would look as presentable as I can …in Gods house and if Jesus came to call…but hey, with a smirk and wink…we can salivate on cue…hey cool, its not your clothes that matter but…etc etc…yeh sure…our local high school is known as dirt bag heaven…and it shows…the kids look and act like slobs…

Here is a “Vatican dress code”…
flickr.com/photos/warg2/544332109/

I have seen those two top images in Church – the priest doesn’t say anything…

This “Vatican dress code” should be posted at every Roman Catholic Church and enforced.
I was delighted to see a quip in our Sunday bulletin stating that although summer is here and it is hot, to remember you are in the House of The Lord, please dress appropriately.👍 They of course did not specify, but I think people should be able to have some common sense about the issue and dress “MODESTLY”.

My family and I usually sit in the first or second pew. This last Sunday the 9am was crowded as we were just meeting our new parish priest. So the family and I sat in the third pew. (there is a reason to the explanation of where we sit:rolleyes: )

The family that was in the pew in front of us consisted of two adults and four daughters. One of the girls (in her teens) had on a mini skirt and a long t-shirt that went over the skirt. Both the skirt and the t-shirt were skin tight and the girl kept tugging at one then the other trying to get them to cover more then they did. I felt sorry for her. But, our 8 & 10 year old grandsons were seated, standing and kneeling directly behind her. The boys could not face forward (toward the altat) without being confronted with the actions and lack of clothing.

Now will someone please tell me how to handle this situation. Because I don’t know anymore. I find it very embarrassing and quite distracting.

When growing up in the 50’s and 60’s I remember our Parish Priest stopping people when they entered Church & informed them that shorts & such was not the apropriate dress. He would advise them to come back to a later Mass.🙂

That’s nice…two guys looking like “Bubba”. How christian is that?

Last week at my local church, one of the girls who took the gifts to the altar was wearing very short shorts, a tie-dyed tshirt, and flip flops.

It’s gotten out of hand and something does need to be done.

If you believe in the true presence in the Eucharist, you have to see how disrespectful that is.

VERY Christian.

Remember Our Lord whipping the money changers out of the Temple?
HOW is that christian?
Money changers are one thing. Judging someone solely how they are dressed is another matter. Next you’ll be telling everyone that Armani is the order of the day.

Who said anything about judging a person? As a Christian you had better be able to JUDGE what is right from wrong. Telling someone of their inapropriate dress is very charitable and Christian.🙂

If there is not a dress-code in your “Church weekly bulletin” this Saturday evening. you should leave the Parish and never return.

The Priest is our teacher/guide. If there is no notice to the effect that this will not be allowed (within a week) – leave and never return. You are not being taught correctly, you are not being guided well.

For you and others of that Parish to put up with it, tells me (an outsider looking in) that you think that this is good/nice/ok. Well it isn’t!! That is straight from the devil himself.

I can understand that no one would disrupt Mass to make a comment, but a week is long enough time to put something in the bulletin. There are many many people that no longer believe in the true presence in the Eucharist – don’t be fooled – just leave.

I don’t like the idea of a dress code either. But once after mass, a fellow parishiner (50 year old male) came up to me and said. “Did you see what so and so’s kid was wearing at mass?” It was a T-shirt that read, " Sex $20" across the bust. The girl was in her 20’s.

Last Sunday, while attending mass, a girl sitting in the same pew, tapped me on the shoulder and said excuse me as she needed to leave the pew to go to the washroom. The girl was approximently 11 years old (she’s an alter server) and her skirt was so high, that it actually showed her underwear.

Come on. These kids need to be somewhat informed some how that it is distracting or at least their parents.

I e-mailed a priest one time about what a teen lector had on an elderly man next to me (a visitor) commented on. (a dress with string straps and cut low enough to be seen down from the pews) This man was not Catholic and was visiting his family for Easter. His question to his daughter? was then “Doesn’t the Catholic Church have any rules on dresses?”

I received an e-mail back that said and I quote.

“I am sorry if my dress offended you. I am sorry if I offended the old people in the church. My dress was just fine with my friends and my mom said it was OK.”

🤷

I know we had some hot weather lately but I’ve seen one of our EM’s wearing shorts in church. I thought they had a dress code??
