A liberal columnist confuses liberal AmChurch for the Catholic Church?
 
Though almost no one noticed it, the implications of Santorum’s argument are dreadful – that the church takes its moral cues from below rather than above. This is a devastating commentary.

The Church on earth is made up of sinners. I don’t think we need to be ashamed of this fact eventhough I would like it to be otherwise. The Honorable Junior Senator from Pennsylvania was just stating a fact, the truth of which, I believe, can be backed up with data.
 
The author is making a specious arguement. That said, it is very clever. It’s purpose is to try and appear to be defending the Church while driving a wedge between Santorum and Catholics.

We all know that there was a failure to weed out the homosexuals and pedophiles from the seminaries. This is not the failure of the Church as an institution, but of people. Steps are being taken to change this.

No, this is a clever attempt to drive a wedge between Catholics and Santorum.
