If other churches have their abuse scandals, supposedly as many as Catholics, why do we rarely hear about them?
Do a google search for “pastor sex abuse” and you’ll find many many stories of protestant churches suffering sex abuse crisis’.

To my knowledge my current parish and the one I grew up in never had this happen, thankfully.

i have a quote from the book of Joel

13
Gird yourselves and weep, O priests! wail, O ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth, O ministers of my God! The house of your God is deprived of offering and libation.
14
Proclaim a fast, call an assembly; Gather the elders, all who dwell in the land, Into the house of the LORD, your God, and cry to the LORD!
15
Alas, the day! for near is the day of the LORD, and it comes as ruin from the Almighty.
16

From before our very eyes has not the food been cut off; And from the house of our God, joy and gladness?
17
The seed lies shriveled under its clods; the stores are destroyed, The barns are broken down, for the grain has failed.
18
How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are bewildered! Because they have no pasturage, even the flocks of sheep have perished.
19
To you, O LORD, I cry! for fire has devoured the pastures of the plain, and flame has enkindled all the trees of the field.
20
Even the beasts of the field cry out to you; For the streams of water are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the plain.

It didn’t happen in mine, either, but we had a pastor who wouldn’t spend time alone with children.

Not that I want this to happen to anybody, anywhere, but i read a couple news items about non Catholic pastors sinning this way and it makes my trust in priests and the Church a bit stronger.

Don’t you think priest celibacy is the problem?
Catholics can correct me if I’m wrong but they’re not being forced into celibacy. They can leave the priesthood if they wanted. Right?

Look at King David. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t he have multiple wives and commited adultry and murder?

What about Catholics who separated from their spouse in a ‘divorce’ and can now longer have sex? Will they become pedophiles if they never reconcile?

If divorce and remarriage is a doctrine from God that can’t change (lemme know if it is and it can’t) why would God give such a burden to people if celibacy causes pedophila?

The vast majority of divorced (with no annulments) Catholics I know have remarried anyway, and some are still taking Holy Communion.

I read where people who worked side by side with Him when Jesus was on earth did terrible things, even to turning Him over to be tortured and killed.

Human beings sin. It is terrible, yet, my faith is in Christ Jesus.

There might be a high count of Catholics that use contraceptives and maybe a high count that don’t believe in transubtatition too.

But that doesn’t mean there’s not a remnant who do what is right.

And it is much easier with congregations where there is not a centralized authority.

And schools, and scouting troops, and coaches.

I’m sorry for your pain

Priestly celibacy is not the problem.
A man doesn’t molest kids because there’s no available woman around. Pedophilia and ephebophilia (sp?) are complicated psychological issues.

Our faith is supposed to be rooted in God. The Church is the bride of Christ, but it’s made up of people and people are sinful.
Which is why we need a redeemer.

I’ll remember you in my prayers during this painful trial :pray:t2:

You are right, we need them to become more close to Jesus Christ

Sex criminals aren’t driven by a desire for sex. It’s all about power for them. That is why there are many pedophiles and rapists who are married or in consenting adult sexual relationships at the same time they are committing crimes.

i lost a major part of my faith in the church
Our faith must first be in Christ, who is our Head, and the Holy Spirit who is the Soul of the Church. He warned us that there would be wolves among the sheep, and so there are.
nd do you think the priest celibacy is a problem?
No.

Infidelity to one’s vows, pedophilia, and other forms of sexual abuse happen even more with married people. If a person is going to betray their vows, being married will not change anything. Especially with pedophilia, being married only gives more access to children.
Sometimes it can because priests lack the sexual stimulation, and they try to find it in this kind of activities
A person who is focused on sexual stimulation is in trouble whether they have taken marriage vows or celibate vows.
a good reminder that our church isn’t the only one involved in scandals, like some other Christians like to think…
The difficulty is that Catholics are the only ones who claim to be the fullness of Truth, so the bar is much higher.
Catholics can correct me if I’m wrong but they’re not being forced into celibacy.
Exactly. The Latin Rite prefers to choose priests from among those who are called to celibacy, so this is a critical part of the preparation. They have many years to bail before taking vows, and if they took vows disingenuously then they will also be accountable before God for that.

I just watched “the Keepers”, a documentary series on Netflix where a priest, Joseph Maskell abused young highschool girls, leaving them with strong PTSD and other mental issues. The priest is also suspected of killing a nun in 1969, or at least be involved in this horrific crime. The archdiocese protected that man and some say they hide the truth from the press and the police.
Also watched it. Horrible! At least should make one think!
