Catholic Church Sex Scandal

There’s a thread right now about widespread sexual abuse in Baptist churches. Many child abusers are married men.

Just think about it logically. There are many stories out there about abuse in other churches, schools, clubs etc… but these represent isolated cases in small local organizations. Only the Catholic Church is found on every corner of the planet… so when abuse happens anywhere in our Church, it impacts the global organization.

Of course there is no evidence that child abuse continues to be a widespread issue in the Catholic Church. Most cases are 20+ years old.

She was murderd because she found out about the abuses, not because he enjoyed killing because of lacking sexual stimulation.
She was murdered because he was an immoral criminal who wanted to hold onto his power.

If he was a married priest and cheating on his wife and the nun found out, I’m sure he would have still killed the nun.

Celibacy isn’t the issue here. Sin is.

With all due respect, Maskell is at best a suspect in having killed Sister Cathy. His guilt has not been proven, and there are other suspects, including Sister Cathy’s own boyfriend, the now-former priest. We can’t be presuming that Maskell is guilty when he was never even charged with the crime and to my knowledge he was not a match for the DNA test.

Not a joke , Jim. Here in Australia the focus is on anyone anywhere who was engaging in the historic sex abuse in institutions. A certain Governor General is in the firing line atm and its being demanded he face court for his cover ups in his denomination.

Who do you claim is they all?
The Jewish community did not escape the attention of the Royal Commission. Have you read its findings?

but we need to make a new thread to discuss it, as we don’t want to go off topic on this thread.

I haven’t seen any other mentions on tv, yet again perhaps I just haven’t been looking carefully enough.

I think the prevailing attitude toward this topic is that there is not enough outrage. The damage is real. I wonder how many people dropped out or never even consider becoming Catholic anymore. While I can personally weather the storm and still call myself Catholic even after being under the charge of a pedo priest myself when I was a child I am distraught over what they have done to our Church. My children who are now adults are no longer Catholics despite my best efforts. I will never give up fighting to bring people to Christ but I am now handicapped to the extreme. It’s like shoveling sand against the tide. So as I said the damage here is real and we need to raise our voices much higher than we are.
