Probably whatever the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) were thinking when they funneled 280 million dollars of our collection basked contributions to organizations fighting for abortion and homosexuality:

How many other threads of the same “news” must we all suffer through? I guess all the Church’s problems are a symptom of this funnelling? So far 2 threads with the same response…
 
I know there was a news article from the Church relating to this that interviewed many of the workers at these hospitals who all state that this never really happened.

Thank you, I was wondering about that. That article was based on reporting by the newspaper called The Western Australian.

In response to the angry backlash after publication of his comments, the archbishop issued a clarification:
Having heard some of the callers on ABC local radio this morning, I feel the need to say more than was reported in today’s West Australian.

While it is true that I had little evidence of forced consents to adoption, I realize that many of the young women at the time were not clear that their consent was required. Many were confused, feeling powerless during their pregnancy for fear that their baby would be taken from them.

Consent obviously became submerged under the weight of other issues being discussed. With the involvement of their parents, priests in some cases, and the Sisters, I can well understand that they felt that others around them were making the decisions.

Adding to all this the painful years of grieving for their lost baby, I can only say how sorry I am that they had to go through so much pain and anguish.

The truth needs to come out. It must be faced. Please let us know what we need to hear.

Dr. James seems to keep forgeting the word “forced” when discussing the adoptions; “Adoption was then accepted practice for pregnant unmarried teenagers throughout Australia”.

That is why Pope John Paul was one of the most beloved Popes, instead of denying errors of the past, He had the dignity to apologize with Christ-like compassion. “In September of 1999, one of the greatest and most loved Popes, John Paul II, took the noble action of issuing a formal apology for all the mistakes committed by some Catholics in the last 2,000 years of the Church’s history, including the trial of Galileo”. (Galileo was persecuted by the Church because he believed the earth was round and orbited the sun).

On the same premise, in the past, Ireland had the Magdalene Laundries. I recall seeing the movie “The Magdalene Sisters” a few years ago, it was dramatizing. The film followed the true story of a 15 year old girl who was forcibly raped. When a girl became pregnant out of wedlock in Ireland back then, raped on not, the baby was forcibly sent off to adoption and the girl was sent to life-long forced labor at a Magdalene Laundromat. Life there was cruel, girls were forced to scrub clothes all day. Some young girl inmates reported years of sexual abuse by several aggressive lesbian nuns.

“The Magdalene Sisters is a 2002 film written and directed by Peter Mullan about teenage girls who were sent to Magdalene Asylums, otherwise known as the ‘Magdalene Laundries’: homes for women who were labeled as “fallen” by their families or society (though the film questions this). The homes were maintained by individual religious orders in the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland. Peter Mullan has remarked that the film was initially made because victims of Magdalene Asylums had received no closure in the form of recognition, compensation, or apology, and many remained lifelong devout Catholics. Former Magdalen inmate Mary-Jo McDonagh told Mullan that the reality of the Magdalene Asylums was much worse than depicted in the film.” That is hard to imagine, because the abuse in the film is shocking.
