That’s ‘news’?? Isn’t that standard operating procedure?
I know that when we still had a Catholic school system (people voted to get rid of it in 1997) that was SOP. Two of my teacher friends were called on the carpet, one for having his car seen at his girlfriend’s house overnight, the other because they got wind that he was seeing a married woman. They were told to cease and desist or they would be fired.
A lot better than the situation we have now when one of our middle school teachers shows a great example by being divorced and pregnant by her 19 year old boyfriend.

It is SOP, Phemie. However, some folks tend to forget that we do have the SOPs with regards our schools. We had the same thing in my grandchildren’s school, albeit the very public extra-marital affair involved a married LSA (learning support assistant). In her case, she ran away with her lover before she could be dismissed,That’s ‘news’?? Isn’t that standard operating procedure?

and 
over the CES warning but, after many years of procrastinating, CES seems determined to get back on track. So, we’ll see.

At my former parish we had a teacher who was shacking up with a guy. The students knew it and he hung around the school appearantly coming on to girls. Then the priest learned why several parents were pulling their kids out. He told her she would lose her job if it continued. Appearantly most of the teachers and the principal thought the priest was out of line. The local paper went about a week, or more, criticizing the priest for his actions. I. and many other parishoners cancelled our subscriptions.

A head “resigned” in our school system a few months ago because of this issue.

If more institutions had rules like this then there would be more jobs for morally upstanding people to choose from.

In Ireland I believe the church caved in to political pressure to ignore this issue about 20 years ago.
In Ireland teachers are not employed by the school bu by the state. the state refuses to accept religious requirements for teachers in religious schools unless they are dedicated R.E. teachers. Similarly lifestyle choices have not been a bar.
Here in the UK a similar issue exists, with the pay for teachers coming from Central Government, via local authorities. I’m not sure how much lee-way individual schools have to enforce faith based requirements on their staff in selection or discipline.
But according to rumours I’ve see the decay goes to the very heart of Catholic institutions, with accusations of the Head of official National Catholic Charities being openly Gay, and in a Civil Partnership. The same person in that capacity is reported to have openly opposed Catholic teaching in some areas of his work. I don’t know the truth of the situation so I wont be more specific.
We desperately need our bishops to start taking a more firm stance on these areas.
Our Holy father has told us that we must not discriminate against one group of sinners while ignoring others.
If we are to campaign against the sexual immorality of same sex unions and refuse to accept gay couples for adoption, or practising gay people as adoptive parents or at teachers, Justice Demands we apply the same criteria to other areas of sexual immorality such as polygamous and “open” relationships, Fornication, Adultery in all it’s forms.
To be a “Catholic” you should as a minimum comply with the “Precepts of the Church”. while not in the catechisms list of 5 (as it doesn’t apply to the celibate): “you must uphold and obey the teaching of the church on Marriage and family life” has always been considered to be one of the traditional list of 6 or 7

What we must remember is that many of our Bishops, particularly +Abp Nichols, inherited the problems within many of our Catholic agencies. Whether something should have been done sooner is immaterial. What matters is what our Bishops are doing now. We must continue to pray for all of them.

In shocking news out today, we have reports that indicate that certain catholic laymen, priests and bishops actually still believe in the catholic faith! Worse, these neanderthal throwbacks are begining to demand that employees of catholic institutions actually begin to at least pretend that they do as well! The outrage is palpable…
