Catholic Church wrong in their teachings?

No fallen man is.

This can be gathered from just a cursory reading of the Word of God.
Well, then…how is it that you speak so authoritatively about what the scripture does or does not say?

Perhaps your understanding of what the scriptures declare about the infallibility of the Church is itself in error?

You have no way of knowing with certainty if what you are telling us is true. It’s just your interpretation of scripture - nothing more.

You have no way of knowing if your pastor is preaching the truth. He can’t be sure himself!

A pastor down the street is preaching a different interpretation of the same verse. But he’s not infallible, so it’s just his best guess.

You’re all men of God, but you can’t all be right if your doctrines are contradictory.

Therefore, your fallible (and conflicting) interepretations of the Word of God illustrate that sola scriptura is a recipe for ecclesial anarchy.

A brief glance and the “Churches” heading in your local Yellow Pages will prove my point.

Perhaps you see now why an infallible Bible without an infallible interpreter is useless.

The best thing that you can do right now is to tell your family that you love them, and you understand their concerns, but it is your faith journey. You have to go where your heart leads you. Tell them that you welcome any prayers they wish to make on your behalf (prayers are always good 👍 ) but any concerns they have should be addressed to God. He is the one that is guiding you. They have to trust that He won’t lead you astray.

Remind them that it isn’t easy overcoming a lifetime of misunderstanding but you are at peace with the answers that you found. Perhaps one day they will want to know the truth, too. In the meantime, arguing for the sake of arguing serves no purpose. Don’t do it. You cannot open a closed mind.

I wish you the best.

This most interesting thing that the OP brought up was DRINKING…hm interesting…i do not know about this portion, however certain to say that all the protestant and catholic i know , do not drink…not saying we never drink wine/beer before, but we won’t touch on alcholic if we have a choice:D

Since someone leaving the Roman Catholic system is not leaving Christ’s church, then this point is moot.
What system? I must’ve missed that part.

The fact is that the point is far from moot
.

Is there such a thing as absolute truth?
Is Christ not that truth? (John 14:6)
Are we not called to the fullness of truth? (Colossians 2:9)
Secondly, Christ was addressing Jewish disciples, not any RC Magisterium of bishops.
So we need to be Jews now? Funny, that isn’t what my New Testament says…
Thirdly, I know you want to apply that verse so bad just to the Catholic Magisterium, but it just doesn’t apply. Christ was addressing all those He sends forth.
Another case of a both/and being interpreted only one way to suit n-C theology.
Some of us do not make the grand assumption that He sends forth every Catholic bishop to speak for Him, and if history is any guide, then He doesn’t.
Rhetorical opinion stated as fact, therefore not true.
If He sends you
to speak in His name, you better believe that any who reject you are rejecting Christ. Same with me and all other who are called to serve Him and spread the Good News.Both/and misinterpreted to suit his own theology again.

Pretty much every Catholic I know does drink. 🙂 But not every night or anything. (Although I gather that a glass of wine every night is good for the heart.)

The thing is, alcoholic drinks aren’t such a big deal if you drink in moderation. Drink wine as part of a meal? No biggie. Have a beer or two every once in a while? No biggie.

But getting drunk is stupid (and getting very drunk on purpose is sinful). I would also strongly advise against drinking when you’re sad or angry, as you’ll just get more depressed and that’s a waste of God’s good gifts.

In the context of this discussion, of course, if your family heard you were getting drunk or even tipsy, you’d be giving 'em ammo against you. So I’d strive to avoid that. 🙂

I guess in Europe with countries like France and Italy (wine) it must be tough for some protestant faiths not to drink or are their none there.

what about GERMANY no Beer ?

I live in the Bible belt and work in the hospitality Industry and let me say this all faiths drink alcohol. They may deny it but I know better.

Moslems, Catholics, Jews, and yes Protestants.

Since telling my family and friends that I have decided to join the Catholic church, all I hear is that the Catholic church is wrong and all their teachings are wrong. These are the main issues Baptists (as I was raised) and Protestants have with the church:

1.Infant baptism
2.ONE baptism and not one every time you think you need it
3.Confesson to a priest
4.so-called “Virgin Mary and saint worship”
5.drinking
6.the Pope
7.the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary

-and about 100 other things I could list but I dont have the time!!

My point is that I have tried to explain to them why the Catholic church believes what it does and why its right by using dozens of scriptures to back me up, but all they want to do is argue and use like 1 or 2 scriptures to disprove me. Personally, growing up Baptist I never felt like the faith I was in was right because I dont think the Lord wants us to come to church to talk about “every one elses sins” and that “so and so doesnt believe what I do” and “who’s winning the game right now” and judging people as they walk through the door(Sorry, 27 years of frustration coming out!!! 😉 ) . Instead, I think he wants us to be there to better your relationship with God. Every time I see my Mom she wants to argue and tell me she’s praying that God will lead me in the “right” direction (the way she believes, of course). My dad is a Baptist preacher and he wont say anything to me about it, which is kinda strange. My question is, what in world can I do break them out of their shell? Shouldn’t they be happy that I’m getting back in Church and realizing what really is important? To them it’s like I’m joining another religion and believing in another God or something. What can I do? God bless.
I’m a Protestant and this is what my opinion is on the topics you posted.
1.Infant baptism
I’m going to baptise my baby when he’s born.
2.ONE baptism and not one every time you think you need it That’s what I believe.
3.Confesson to a priest
I confess to my pastor when I feel led to, but shouldn’t have to be a requirement.
4.so-called “Virgin Mary and saint worship”
You just talk to them and not worship them. I’m OK with that. I talk to Mary myself.
5.drinking
Not sure what you are refering to. If you are refering to having wine for the blood of Christ, I’m OK with that.
6.the Pope
OK He is like another Priest/Pastor, but with more authority in the church.
7.the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary
Still learning about the Immaculate Conception. As for now, I’m undecided.

You show your faith as if you are a Catholic ;), and I’ve noticed that you are married to a catholic man. 🙂 It is good for you.

The Catholic Church is the Church which Jesus Christ founded. Those to whom Jesus was speaking were the Catholic Church. If you hear the Authentic teaching of the Catholic Church, then you do hear Jesus Christ who founded it.

Yes. Of course.

I am well familiar with the popular refrain and claim.

Claims are a dime a dozen…

atemi

It is not a claim

history is history

facts are facts

there was no protestants till around the 12th century

the split of the east and west was not for over a thousand years

Yes. Of course.

And your church doesn’t make that claim as well? As you’ve said, claims are a dime a dozen…

Yeah, that’s for sure.

I hear n-Cs claim to be “full gospel, New Testament churches”, but the claim falls apart when I check to see if they teach the things that I find plainly stated in the NT and in the history of the early church.

The fact is that you’re right, claims are a dime a dozen. But the person who gets the facts and decides for himself sees right through all that hype.

So far all I have seen from you is unsubstantiated rhetoric. If you have any real factual proof, I’m all about seeing it but so far…no proof.

If you have any…open a thread on the one doctrine that you think you can prove the Catholic Church wrong on and PM me the link and I and my Catholic brothers and sisters will very happily and charitably deal with it.

But if you botch it, you’re gonna hear about it from us. This isn’t some batch of ignorant pew warming Catholics here, we really do “Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (2nd Timothy 2:15)

Then why are you still a member of a church that does not claim to be come from the Apostles themsevles? This is an important matter, since each and every denomination makes the same claim. If you don’t believe it, try looking into it. No denomination I know of doesn’t make that claim; every one does so, in one form or the other.

I think you have confused what claim I was speaking of. Here it is again:

“The Catholic Church is the Church which Jesus Christ founded. Those to whom Jesus was speaking were the Catholic Church. If you hear the Authentic teaching of the Catholic Church, then you do hear Jesus Christ who founded it.”

My local assembly makes none of those claims, and I would flee from it if it did.
