He should be excommunicated. Those in charge of the Catholic hospitals should refuse to follow this- shut down, if that is what it takes.

Neither are likely to happen…there are too few people with backbones in this country.

Not to change the subject after just 1 reply but its my understanding and correct me if I am wrong, that one excommunicates themselves by the actions that they do. Its not something that the Hierarchy do.

I’m afraid that I felt compelled to exhaust myself commenting on this topic earlier on a newspaper site. The link is below. You’ll know me, as I’m one of only two people representing the pro-life. pro-parent position. Please pray for the other folks and for me, as this sent my already crazy pregnancy hormones for a depressing loop!

It is both. We need more bishops to take a stand against people who claim to be Catholic but don’t live their faith.

There are two types of excommunication. One is based on the act committed. The other is actually pronounced by the Church heirarchy. Obviously the second is much more serious.

Who ultimately is in charge of Catholic hospitals? If it’s the Bishop, what happens if he ignores the mandate? Is his only recourse to close the hospital, or can a lawsuite be filed and the directive be suspended until the case is settled?

If Positive Law conflicts with Natural Law, we, as Catholics are obligated to ignore Positive Law even if it mean imprisonment.

As for the Governor, I think I public declaration of excommunication is in order here and I believe we have the Bishops in Colorado that would do it too.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out
