The Catholic Campaign For Human Development’s 2007 Annual Report (Chicago Archdiocese) listed a $30,000 national grant to a group called Interfaith Leadership Project (ILP). Their accomplishment was described as assisting in the opening of a community-based health clinic in Cicero after securing state funding. This health clinic - the Access Community Health Network Hawthorne Clinic - provides birth control and at least referrals for abortion. I called the clinic but the receptionist was not able to tell me if the clinic actually performed abortions or not. The Access Community Health Network’s website claims that they “… acknowledge a women’s right to choose among the full spectrum of reproductive options…”.

I have been unable to get anyone in the Archdiocese to return my calls. If anyone else in the Archdiocese of Chicago is concerned about this perhaps you could try and contact someone at the office.

I deliberately do not give to the Campaign for Human Development because I have read of it being riddled with dissenters for many years now (I’ve heard and read the same things about Pax Christi, which used to be headed by pro-homosexuality bishop Thomas Gumbleton). I give to other charities which aid the poor and needy, that are Catholic organizations,
such as Help the Helpless. I also give to Feed the Children
(which is nonCatholic but not antiCatholic) and to trustworthy Catholic religious orders who have outreaches for the poor and needy, such as “Franciscan Mission Associates.”
