WICHITA, Kan. - A Catholic university in Wichita canceled a scheduled talk by Kansas Supreme Court Justice Carol Beier because of concerns about the tone of messages from abortion opponents who objected to the visit.
Beier was scheduled to speak Friday as part of Newman University’s Constitution Day on such topics as the Kansas constitution, the role of judges in the judicial system and how to get into law school. The speech was canceled after Newman Provost Kimberly Long became concerned about opposition expressed through social media and in messages to her, The Wichita Eagle reported.

And just what “tone” did the messages contain? Why aren’t we told what was actually written? I’d bet most messages quoted Church teaching and demanded , Gasp! that a Catholic college actually promote Catholic teaching. It has nothing to do with “civil discourse” and everything to do with giving a pro-abortion judge a platform at a Catholic college.

This is happening with greater frequency in many of our Catholic colleges.Think Notre Dame and Georgetown U to name a few:(

When do we, Catholic parents, who are fiancing these “Catholic” institutions, say no? When do we start challenging their decisions. We are paying those presidents and deans HUGE salaries.

“tone”.

Frankly in any manner that Church doctrine is denied at a Catholic college is the wrong “tone”.

Great job, abortion protesters! Keep up the Lord’s work. 🙂

I’m not quite as cavalier about this disruption. At secular universities we tend to be upset when pro-abortion protestors cancel pro-life speakers. I feel reluctant to give these protestors a pass just because they’re on the right side of the issue.

I think a lot of schools are too worried about federal funding and diversity.

The price of getting into bed with the government.

Well, to quote one speaker “when people stop funding schools because of their football and basketball connections, for one”. I mean, we can’t have that now, can we?

This goes back to what I talk about regarding excuse-making. It’s not pro-heresy secularists sitting at white tables in ivory towers who are in the trenches making this happen, it’s everyday homegrown heartlanders who keep falling for this nonsense, namely that if they don’t work 20 out of 50 years to send John-boy and Jane Doe to an expensive private college where their values will still be challenged, they will be working minimum wage bagging groceries at the hometown check-out and be laughed at forever and forever.

Jason Lewis used to discuss this as well noting that every single time education funding is questioned, all they do is hold up a child and say “are you going to be a hater and deny this little one an education ”.

Besides, the academic structure at many USA schools is an albatross.

I’m glad they canceled it but you need to remember this is Wichita, KS. We had the summer of mercy here in "91. All summer people came in to protest at Tiller’s clinic that did late term abortions. That never stopped him. He was eventually killed. That was sad but it happened here.

Tiller was never afraid. Each time he was taken to court, they ruled in his favor. Governor Sebelius had his back. You can see what she tried to do with Obamacare, make Catholic organizations pay the insurance for them. By the way Sebelius is supposedly a devout Catholic.

We now have Tiller’s clinic open again with a woman doctor doing the abortions.

The dean provided zero facts/info/substance to support her contention that there were threats or a dangerous situation. We shouldn’t malign pro-life people based simply on an unfounded accusation. Many times those on the left claim faithful Catholics and prolifers are “violent” or “dangerous” simply because they disagree with the left.

A Catholic school isn’t supposed to be a secular school.

Why did a Catholic college invite a pro-abortion judge in the first place?
