“They are masters at appealing to our very basic instincts and needs.”
Hi:
Yes, they are masters at appealing to our baser instincts and needs but not to our spiritual needs.
What does it really mean to be in the presence of God for all eternity? In a certain sense, we really have no idea what it will be like except that it will be wonderful much more wonderful than living in paradise on earth. ( My mother once told me when she converted to the JWs that the hardest thing she had to give up when becoming a JW was the hope of seeing Jesus face to face.)
We may not have much of an idea of what it will be like to live forever with the Lord, but, we all know what a nice house looks like…what a nice yard looks like, what a nice woman or man looks like…
The JWs’ hope is very materialistic. In fact, when the JWs go from door to door particularly in a wealthy neighborhoods they often pick out which of the houses they want God to give them in the paradise once God murders the current occupants for not becoming JWs themselves.
In the Catholic Church, we are given much more than the hope of living forever in a beautiful house, with beautiful people, with a beautiful yard.
We are given the hope of actually being immersed in God’s presence for all eternity! We experience a foretaste of this in the Mass…
Having been offered the hope of the JWs and the hope of being immersed in the life of the Trinity for all eternity…I can tell you right now…I would never want the Catholic Church to become anything like the JWs…Because the JWs want you to choose to receive infinitely less than the Lord wishes to give us! The Catholic Church, however, gives us the Graces we need to receive ALL that the Lord wishes to give us, if only we would say Yes to Him more often!
