The University of Detroit Mercy’s religion Professor Jane Schaberg is a member of Catholics for Choice.

More on University of Detroit Prof Schaberg: First Things reports that Schaberg says she goes to Church, “when I think I can handle my anger”.

Reporter Robin Wilson continues: "She is reluctant to discuss her religious beliefs (she says she goes to church ‘when I think I can handle my anger’). But she says it is important for feminist scholars to continue to address Catholic teachings. “I believe that it’s a very dangerous thing for women to simply opt out and say, ‘The male church can have the buildings, the institution, the money, the power, and we’ll go somewhere else,’” she says. “The Catholic Church is a living organism, and it’s currently one of the most deadly to women.”

UD-M did such a great job with my niece that she’s just informed her parents that’ she’s now an atheist after a lifetime of “catholic” education, here in this just lovely liberal archdiocese, breaking her family’s hearts. She’d been better off if she had gotten her education, like her sister, in the community college system!!!

I was wondering, is U of D Jesuit High School run any better than U of D Mercy?

It seems to be one of the preeminent Catholic secondary schools in the Detroit area, but is it faithful in its teaching of Catholic doctrine?

And why do some of you consider Detroit a liberal archdiocese?

Isn’t U of D Mercy run by the Jesuit Order, and not the Archdiocese of Detroit?

“Catholics for Choice” is a min(name removed by moderator)er of course. to the extent that Catholics are obliged to agree that human life is sacred from conception, Catholics for Choice are actually Catholics for the Socal and Legal Acceptance of the continuing butchery of the unborn.
Such Catholics do not even have the excuse that most secularist do in that there is no ignorance on their behalf that life in the the womb is not just the existence of impersonal biological tissue.

UD-Mercy, the university is an unholy combination of the two formerly very good schools, Mercy College (Mercy sisters) and University of Detroit (Jesuit). The only thing good I can say about it is that Mercy’s sister school, Marygrove, is even worse in the dissidence department. There is a still a loose affiliation with the original religious orders, and yes all CAtholic colleges, even those run by orders, are supposed to be subject to the archbishop’s mandatum, but no he does not have canonical say so in their finances and operations. In this UD-M is no different than the marjority of so-called historic Catholic universities in its vigorous promotion of non-Catholic teaching and in its disregard to any authority of the bishops, much less the papacy.

There has not been a direct organizational connect between UD High and the university in many years, other than the fact that some Jesuits still teach there and administer the school.

I was wondering about that too. We have 4 parishes that regularly say the EF Mass, all done by diocesan clergy ( I know of no other diocese that can make that claim. Most of the other diocese bring in one of the traditional orders to say the EF Mass because they get no support from their diocesan clergy.

We have quite a number of parishes where kneeling is the norm for the reception of Communion.

Yes, we suffered from some really bad seminary formation in a lot of our priests. But the man who rebuilt Sacred Heart into a great institution is now our bishop.

Besides, I do a lot of traveling for work and I seen what some other dioceses are like, we look positively SSPX compared to some
