Earlier this year I did one of Fr. Heilman’s novenas that had a 10,000 steps a day suggested penance. I did the penance most days and having since gone on a few trips involving a lot of walking, I can feel that it helped me get a bit more fit as I’m walking better. I’d like to find some books or study websites that help build on that for fitness and weight loss, as I am completely unmotivated to do things for just my own looks or health, but get quite motivated when it involves doing for God or even for others (like a charity fundraiser).
I see quite a few of these books on Amazon and would appreciate any recommendations, especially if the stuff in the book can be done by a middle-aged woman with a desk/ couch job rather than by a gym instructor or Navy SEAL. If there are websites or apps I’d be interested in those too.
Please, no books involving fasting (this beyond Church requirements and maybe 1 day a week extra is not good for my physical or mental health), emphasis on the philosopical over the practical, or " body image". I’m fine with body image at my age – what I really want is a book that will enable me to work towards better health by losing some weight and being able to hike 5 miles and climb 300 steps regularly and easily while bringing me closer to God.
