Amen! I totally agree with you. Its heartening to know there are some good, orthodox students at ND.
It doesn’t matter that McBrien won’t be around forever. The point of the matter is that he is around now spreading his venomous doctrine. You incessantly talk about the ‘few’ imperfections over and against the apparent multitudes of orthodox professors. The problem should be obvious to you… these other professors do not have the reach that McBrien has, which is precisely why you have to bring these others to our attention – because we know nothing of them. But McBrien, however, is printed in numerous diocesan newspapers spreading his heterodoxy to literally millions. So before you tout about the ‘few’ imperfections, consider for a moment the immense damage that is being done by this solitary man. Yes, he’s a priest, which makes it all the worse because he should know better; yes, he’s a priest, but so was Arius, and Judas was an apostle, Nestorius was a bishop, and Luther was a monk… so what? We’re not questioning the legitimacy of McBrien’s ordination.decn2b,
You obviously do not know a lot about Notre Dame. It’s a shame that you can rattle off the few imperfections in the school but you do not know the beauty of Our Lady’s University. You seem pretty set in your thinking, so I’m not going to try to change your mind. By the way, McBrien will not be around forever. But, please be respectful. He still is a priest. He still holds the faculties to change mere bread and wine in the ACTUAL body and blood of Christ. I’m not a big fan of his theological stances by any means. But, I do respect the fact that he is called by God. I believe all priests are called by God. I am pretty sure that is still a basic understanding of our religion.
If you think Notre Dame “has no soul”, I can’t imagine what you think of Georgetown, BC, LMU, Xavier, Loyalo Chicago, DePaul and the rest.
Notre Dame “does have a soul” by the way. Open your eyes and see it before you speak with such wrongful convictions. I will light a candle for you at the Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes. This candle will be shining for the Holy Spirit to open your eyes so you can see how hateful you sound. In case you don’t know, the grotto is on the Notre Dame campus. It’s an exact replica (1/3 size) of the grotto in Lourdes, France. Your candle will be flickering on Friday, October 20, the eve of the UCLA game. GO IRISH!!!

It is far from secular. You can’t walk ten feet without bumping into a statue of a saint or Jesus Christ!
Hehe, heh…too bad you can’t walk ten feet without walking into real *people *who are saints or who want to be like Jesus Christ. Haven’t you heard that joke about Disneyworld visitors saying “Get a load of how real all this fake stuff looks”! Is that what Notre Dame wants to be about???![]()
Agreed on the faculty requirement. The problems is, it is rather hard to find orthodox Catholic faculty. Baylor University, where I used to attend had a Board of Regents requirement that those on its religion faculty must be Baptist, and I suppose this included the courses on Catholicism and Orthodoxy as well.I have the money and I will never send my 4 children to that place you call Notre Dame…NEVER! The prestige is of this world…I am worried about things not of this world…and It will be decades before ND comes off the Damned to hades list. Simply put you are blind to the fact that your Alma Mater HAS NO SOUL in it. A catholic University should HAVE 100% catholic faculty in the Theology dept. I just read a Mcbrein article today. It is a summary of why he hates the Blessed Virgin Mary and especially devotions to her. Let me ask you this.?>?> who does McBrien work for in terms of soul saving???hmm!!! Who else cringes at Marian devotion?..Hmmmmmm!!! Do you realize the countless souls that are being corrupted by this man? His article in my diocesan newspaper reaches countless people who are unwittingly seduced by this "CROWLEY McBlarney (orbrien) Professor of theology. The smoke of Satan has entered the sanctuary (and the classrooms of the theology dept. of ND)
How about lighting a candle for McBrien’s return to the fulness of the Catholic and Apostolic faith?Decn2b,
If you’ve been to the Notre Dame campus and it feels “secular” to you then you are TRULY walking around with blinders on! As a student, I have heard visitors describe Notre Dame as “Catholic Disneyland”. …no joke.
It is far from secular. You can’t walk ten feet without bumping into a statue of a saint or Jesus Christ!
Unfortunately, you do NOT know the Notre Dame that I know…and the Notre Dame that draws hundreds of thousands of Catholic pilgrims each year.
Remember, your candle will be burning bright at our Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes on Friday, October 20. God Bless and God Bless Our Lady’s University!
You know good and well that Iserve was not talking about the Real Presence being fake. He was talking about ND pretending to be a Catholic University.Iserve,
Last time I checked at Notre Dame, the tabernacle in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the tabernacle in the log chapel, the tabernacle in the Colman-Morse chapel, the tabernacle in the seminary chapel, and the tabernacles in all 27 residence hall chapels contain the REAL body of Christ. You say, “get a load of how real all this fake stuff looks.” Think before you speak. The true presence of Jesus Christ is by FAR fake, and the true presence of Jesus Christ is present in 40 tabernacles throughout the Notre Dame campus.
As the statue of the Sacred Heart in the middle of campus reads, “Venite ad me omnes!” --Come all of you to me!
“Me” being the true Christ. …and for one to call His presence “fake”!?! …I will pray for you.
Yours in Our Lady…
I have not compared ND to other Catholic universities. Second, although there are good things that may be happening there, there are good Catholic things happening at secular universities also. Also, some of the things that Domer pointed out, such as the V-monologues, apparently was not that accurate according to another who was there. What is this, kick Notre Dame day? We are to condemn this university because of one man? I am ashamed by some of these posts. What happened to charity and praying for those who need Gods grace to get back to the true path?
Notre Dame is probably as Catholic as any Catholic University in this nation. I am sure that many of the small super orthodox schools are tremendous places of faith where a quality education can be found.
However, to act like there is no room for Notre Dame compared to those universities is shameful. The only thing preventing ND from being the school that hard core Catholic conservatives desire is time and prayer.
They already do a lot of things right as Domer1997 has patiently illustrated. If you aren’t willing to be part of the solution then you become the problem. The decline of Christian-Catholic values in this country comes directly from this mentality of attacking versus helping.
Ok now you are getting out of hand…its almost a cult-like mentality. Somehow I lose my Catholicity for being crititcal of ND and its so called catholic Identity?Brucealeg…I thank you.
I am truly saddened that there are members on this forum who claim to be Catholic and flat-out slam my alma mater ".
