A private school has authority to do as it wishes. They can demand many things. My guess is that the teacher had other issues. Why not allow a flag? I think the teacher was making his statement, and he was not very professional in what he did. I would not have allowed the last day where he was able to give dissent to the students. I would not have appreciated this if it were my child’s school.

The teacher has issues IMHO. I don’t necessarily think he is mentally ill, but he is being extreme. He had 25yrs. of experience but only 6 at that school. I don’t understand his position one bit. Most churches used to fly the American flag in church years ago. Now our church flies it outside, but really this teacher is a bit dramatic.

I think he taught his entire class about protest and nothing more. I don’t think he was courageous.
American military clergy wear the American flag on their uniform. Would this make them against the faith?

Another question - He’s been a teacher for 25 years. Has he never flown the American flag in his classroom? It would be a little odd if he didn’t. So, why the protest now? There is more to the story somewhere.

If, and this is a big if, we can follow the paper trail of our tax dollars to something such as a government organization promoting and performing abortions, we could file a suit claiming our religious freedom has been disrupted or interfered with, we could win it. But how?

p.s. I know this is idealistic but millions of innocent lives have been taken, this is a real possibility.
You have an approach I have never seen before. Maybe you could start a new thread to test the waters.

I own my own business-I make the rules on what my employees can and can not display. It was not HIS classroom they are talking about. It is the SCHOOLS classroom and the SCHOOL says each room flies the flag.

If an employee refuses to obey the the directives of their Boss they are fired. Thats the way it works regardless of what kind of business we are talking about.

The article says that for the six years he has taught at Kolbe Cathedral High School he has removed any flag he has found in his classroom. The article doesn’t mention his previous teaching practice.

Kobasa, who is part of the extended community of the Hartford Catholic Worker and Jonah House in Baltimore
Just google the two organizations above. Mr. Kobasa is just a part of the old liberation activists. Read the website of the Jonah House especially, they thrive on controversary.

While the man is certainly entitled to follow his own convictions, he is mistaken about whose classroom it was. He was an employee, not the owner of the classroom. As such he is bound to follow legitimate authority or leave and let the school hire someone who will. He took the latter road.

I do not understand a single thing about his position, though, like not having a crucifix and the flag in the same room. I do not see the relationship between Galation, Merton and the flag. I also do not believe in undermining authority for one’s personal convictions. Kids have enough problem with authority as it is.

You also have a duty to study the issues and be an informed voter.
