Confession…for forgiveness and to bind a sin is not to create a sin …love and worship is given freely to God with free will, not with a threat of a mortal sin i would assume …🤷
Your looking at things in a very pain/pleasure - reward/punishment light. I can’t really blame you, that is very common among neophytes of the spiritual life (where many remain their whole lives) - just as humans in their first stage of physical and emotional development tend to also have their viewpoint.

Calling the Pope “God” is also popular with the Saints. Catherine of Siena is famous for calling the Pope “our sweet Christ on earth.” This phrase is very well known and very often repeated in Roman circles. Catherine also said:
Christ doesn’t equal God. Christ isn’t the surname of Jesus, but a title given Him by the fact of His being anointed by God for His mission. Christ comes from the Greek for anointed. Thus the kings of Israel and the prophets were all Christs. The Pope by his anointing is a Christ. We ourselves, in the words of Saint Paul, are called by our baptism and chrismation are called to be “alter Christi” - other Christs.

Catholic history is the greatest of all times, of all religions here on earth, because it is from Christ that we have this history, the founder of the Catholic church.
266 Popes, 68 are Saints mind you and 12 are supposedly not good. Not a bad record considering how long the papacy has been around.
Many anti-Catholics as yourself, will say or do anything because they are so full of anger towards the Catholic church, yet they do not even know why. One man told me he was so upset with the Catholic church to a point where he even told me he was jealous at our authority, our history of the church that no one can destroy. He was actually angry the church has not yet been destroyed in spite of everything it’s been through. These people need to worry about their own so-called “denominations” and the things that go on in their own churches. For if they took the time to actually “read” about the church founded by Jesus Christ, they’d learn something. They would see how it all makes sense.

I Googled some of the quotes from that site, and they only pulled that site up, and occasionally an SDA site.

Can we see more citations? That kind of “high scholarly work” always makes me think that there are issues with the source material.

Roman Catholics are obliged to believe that the Roman Pope fills the office of Christ on earth. This would not be a problem if it simply meant that he is the representative of Christ. But Romanists actually teach that the Pope is Christ himself! And even outright say that he is God! This is total blasphemy. Its even worse than Arianism. The Papacy has destroyed 75% of the Christian Church. It attempted to bring everyone into submission to his divine status.

.
Complete and utter nonsense. I’ve been a Catholic my whole life have a minor in theology and spent four years in the seminary. There is nothing in church teaching or church documents that even hint at the nonsense you posted…

You might get away with posting this nonsense in non-Catholic or anti-Catholic forums but it is foolish to do so here. You might want to take into account the old maxim of :

" better to remain silent and let people think you’re foolish than to open your mouth and prove it" I

Nor do I find any of them anywhere but on anti-Catholic sites. They may have come from actual texts, though I’ll wait to see some more conclusive proof of authenticity - sorry rad, but I don’t take your citations at face value, it looks like you just cut and pasted from any number of rabidly anti-Catholic sites - but at the very least they are probably horribly mistranslated and taken out of context.

At least, though, one cite is accurate, that of Pope John Paul II from Crossing the Threshold of Hope. But, do you actually know what vicar means? It means “taking the place” of someone, to stand in as their representative.
These quotes were made up. They’re bogus and exist only on anti-catholic websites. It’s your typical anti-catholic nonsense where anti-catholics claim to know church doctrine that nobody else does-not even the Pope.

If the quotes are legit he should be a provided links to actual church documents, not just hate sites.

Let’s cut to the chase. In light of 21st century middle class American sensibilities, history itself is disturbing.

Sorry don’t mean upset you…But CHRIST MAY MEAN ANOINTED IN GREEK…BUT HE IS GOD ONE WITH THE ETERNAL FATHER ONE WITH THE LIFE GIVING HOLY SPIRIT …Co -substantial and undivided Trinity our Great Lord and God… 🤷

Are YOU sreious?? If I understand you right, then you are saying that Pope John Paul II was corrupt? Pope Pius XII, the loudest voice agsinst the Nazis in Europe during WWII was evil. Yes there have been dark periods in our history, but don’t let the bad blind you to the good!
Did JPII transfer a certain cardinal to Rome. A certain cardinal that i would be really happy to see in jail right now? How many souls left the church over this mans actions/inactions and now he is given a promotion by none other than the great jpII?

The only place these “documents” occur is on anti-Catholic websites-most of them seventh day Adventists websites.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and will assume you just got suckered. The Catholic Church does not now nor has ever taught that the Pope was equal to Christ or was a God or any other of the absurd things stated in these bogus documents.

If you really want to know what the church teaches about the Pope I suggest you start here. oce.catholic.com/index.php?title=Pope

He was not promoted. He was assigned to a Basilica where his basic duties are making sure the holy water fonts are full.

So you have found a cardinal that was corrupt. That in your mind ,I guess, means all the Cardinals in history and everyone who belong to the church is corrupt. Correct? Given your loathing of the church membership and hierarchy why are you still a Catholic?

Has anyone else delved into Catholic history and found the utter corruption and moral depravity shocking? I find it hard to really be proud of my Catholic roots when there is sooooooo much corruption in it. I wish it was one or two isolated incidences but corruption and lust for power seem to pervade every second of the Church’s history. 🤷 And it continues to this day.
You should listen to some of Fr. Corapi’s talks about scandal in the Church.

Regardless, the Church is the pillar of truth that God put on this earth. She’s made beautiful and sanctified as the bride of the living God.

the spirituality, yes. theh clergy and church, NO!

How can anyone of God allow people to refer to him as “your holiness” how pompous and arrogant.

And no, they are not referring to his office.

no. the fact that the GREAT JPII brought him to Rome is my problem. He should be in jail. The church should not hold its clergy above the law.

Enough of your anti-Catholic babbling. It is obvious you are just a non-Catholic looking for a fight, and not interested at all in meaningful dailogue.

It seems to me there are two extremes to avoid: the first is think that because some Catholics (even Popes) have done truely dreadful things then we should be ashamed of the Church as a whole. The second is to feel that we must protect the Church by playing down the attrocities performed by some Catholics or that we must try and white-wash away the periods where the Church organisation did not do what was best.

We should be rightly proud for all the good the Church has done (preserved scripture, given us the creeds, given us inspirational saints and teachers, spread the word of God across the world, given us monastories, etc.) but also be strong enough to condemn such things as the burning of people and the attempts to restrict access to the Bible.

…AND inspiring and comforting and reassuring and teaching. I love Church history!🙂
