I find it hard to really be proud of my Catholic roots when there is sooooooo much corruption in it.
I would imagine the apostles were not proud of their brother Judas, hand picked by Jesus Christ Himself. It still made the faith no less true, and testifies to the power of God to work through fleeting men.

And why is this thread in “non-Catholic religions”…

How can anyone of God allow people to refer to him as “your holiness” how pompous and arrogant.

And no, they are not referring to his office.
Not so really. As Christians we are to submit to good authority. In fact, Jesus has commanded a servile approach from authority. However, can authority be abused? Yes. Is power analogous to authority? Of course not!

Did JPII transfer a certain cardinal to Rome. A certain cardinal that i would be really happy to see in jail right now? How many souls left the church over this mans actions/inactions and now he is given a promotion by none other than the great jpII?
Suupah, I am from Boston and you are discussing Cardinal Law whom I’ve spoken to when I went to Rome. Why don’t you check out www.reformation.com and see where the molestation really lies. The Catholic church has the LOWEST molestation rate ever.
If people have left the church because of this, it truly was not in their hearts to belong to the Catholic church in the first place. They use it as a perfect excuse not to want to attend Mass anymore. This act by less than 1% of priests has nothing to do with believing in Jesus Christ. People need to look to their own churches before they can comment.

Sorry my friend, but if you knew church history, you’d be in the church Jesus founded and not arguing about it. Why don’t you try me who knows the history inside and out?

I don’t know whether that transfer was the right thing to do or not, but calling it a “promotion” is just plain ridiculous.

I don’t think suupah is really Catholic anyway. I never known a true devout Catholic to speak in his undertones and to clearly insult the Catholic church, because you are in fact insulting Christ himself.

Enough of your anti-Catholic babbling. It is obvious you are just a non-Catholic looking for a fight, and not interested at all in meaningful dailogue.
nope, i am catholic. i just was very disconcerting to discover that there was so much corruption in a church that claims to be the beacon of light to the world. Yet they have the same corruptions that any other human organization suffers from.

it is insulting christ to say that a cardinal that shuffled a pedafile priests around who ruined countless peoples lives and drove many people away from christ’s church should be in jail? please explain.

It is insulting to christ to call the church out on her corruption? please explain.

Think about this fact. The great St. Peter’s basilica was at last partially built by indulgences sold for money. This largely caused the beginnings for the reformation which tore the church in two. For the sake of this grandiose monument the church hierarchy caused this huge division. THis thought never even occured to me until i went to rome and saw the basilica and was overcome with sadness that this is the trophy of the reformation.

Source for that fact please?

The hierarchy caused the division? I thought a certain lowly German monk had something to do with things?

Believe it or not Cardinal Law was promoted to be the archpreist at the Basilica of St Mary Major in Rome (not exactly a simple transfer because St Mary Major is one of the most honorable churches in Rome and the position of its archpreist is one of the most preistigeous in the Roman Catholic Church ). Also he holds a seat on the Congregations of Oriental Churches, Clergy, Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, Evangelisation of Peoples, Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Catholic Education, Bishops as well as the Pontifical Council for the Family. This is truly a disgrace to the JPII pontificate.

No more shocking than humanity in general. Spend more time studying the saints, and you’ll learn more about what the church is here for. Cultivate humility rather than pride in your “Catholic roots.” That’s more the point of Christianity, and it’s the point that all the corrupt, morally depraved members of our faith missed themselves. Spend more time studying those who got it right rather than those who got it wrong, you’ll learn a whole lot more and be much less discouraged.
The Problem is , nobody knows whats right or wrong for sure these days, gray area abounds

I am Catholic, & I agree with you. I Love My Church too,But there is a lot wrong, for one thing,it is more like a business

What everybody needs to understand is that Cardinal Law was betrayed by people he trusted. What he did was not mere “shuffling” He was told by therpaists treating the offending priests that they were “cured” He trusted those therapists. Did he take the proper course of action? No. IMHO, Law should have shoved the priests in a monestary in the middle of nowhere, where they would have no access to children. This would protect kids and let the CHurch keep tabs on the offenders.

  1. There is almost no pediophilia in the priest sexual abuse scandal. It was almost exclusively homosexual rape of post pubescent boys. Of course this does not take away from the evil that was perpetuated but we can’t solve the problem if we don’t acknowledge what the root of the problem is I am as angry about this as anyone and made my thoughts known both to my pastor and face-to-face with my Bishop.
  2. If the Church can only condemn sins that members of the Church have not committed then it might as well shut down .
  3. Perhaps you could give us an idea of what teachings of the church you reject so we could understand exactly what it is you mean by cafeteria Catholic
  4. The only ones who truly followed all theCchurch teaches would appear to be Jesus and Mary since doing so would require perfection. That does not, however, mean that we should not strive to follow all the teachings of the church.
  5. I suspect your parents, as did mine, told you long ago that “everybody else does it” is not a good excuse
Unfortunately, most of us are cafeteria catholics

I agree, it is unfortunate that laypeople seem to think themselves authoritative enough to pick and choose what rules they will follow, what beliefs they will espouse.

You should listen to some of Fr. Corapi’s talks about scandal in the Church.

Regardless, the Church is the pillar of truth that God put on this earth. She’s made beautiful and sanctified as the bride of the living God.
I Listen to Father Corapi, but I am not so sure about him. I think he likes to hear himself talk

It is interesting that throughout the history of Christendom people have felt compelled to judge the quality of someone else’s faith. The standard is dynamic to say the least.
