Hardly anybody in any religion does what they are supposed. If we did,we could save ourselves a lot of grief. But nobody wants to do what they are supposed, when they get old, they repent for the folly of their youth, including myself.God Knows Man Is weak,& His only Son Died for sinners Like me, The just have no need of Jesus:cool:

Has anyone else delved into Catholic history and found the utter corruption and moral depravity shocking? I find it hard to really be proud of my Catholic roots when there is sooooooo much corruption in it. I wish it was one or two isolated incidences but corruption and lust for power seem to pervade every second of the Church’s history. 🤷 And it continues to this day.
and who made you the judge of the CC? and who are listen to?

Peace.

If the twelve that Jesus himself picked weren’t perfect, why would I expect anyone else to be? Isn’t that why we GO to church? Because we’re NOT perfect? Isn’t that why we NEED that place?

I agree,& as a catholic I cant believe that if God finds us one time off guard that we will go to hell. I dont say this But I have heard it said that if there is a God he`s a terrible god,I have heard this from catholics too,I am sure a few of u have heard it too. Most say that hell is on earth. These are not necessarily my beliefs, just things I hear.We must rely on Gods mercy.May Gods divine mercy shine down upon us all!

that is not what is being argued. Do you realize that these imperfect men have the ability to excommunicate you from the church which basically damns you to hell? And in the past people were excommunicated for things you would not be excommunicated now for.

Well, no, not really. If you’re excommunicated, then you’ve already done that yourself. The excommunication is just the Church letting you know that you need to repent and come back into the fold.
And in the past people were excommunicated for things you would not be excommunicated now for.
For example?

You don’t have to be perfect to exercise duly-given authority. Think Moses and David were perfect? Hardly.

Also, I would suggest getting caught up to speed on what excommunication is and what it is for as well as avoiding the common error of what anathema is: catholic.com/thisrock/2000/0004chap.asp

In short, excommunication is a canonical penalty, and it can change over time and in response to what is going on during the age without being a big deal. To the general question of finding Catholic history disturbing, not at all. It’s just as I expect and moreover surprising that it hasn’t been worse. Indicating to me that something is helping the Church.

Whether or not someone SAID I was in communion with the church would not change the fact that I was or was not in actuality, in communion with the church. There are many, many Catholics who are excommunicated latae sententiae. No one announced it. No one wrote it down. The Catholics themselves probably don’t even know it. But they are. How would any official proclamation change what’s in someone’s heart?
Oh yeah, and I’ve already been excommunicated. 😃 Then I repented. Now I’m not excommunicated. 🤷
I don’t want to say that being excommunicated is ‘no big deal’, because it is, but it isn’t the declaration that is the big deal, it’s the sin itself.
An excommunication doesn’t damn you to hell anyway. Come on, you know that.
My parents are imperfect people. They still had the authority to discipline me. My boss is imperfect. He still has the authority to tell me when I am in error. Again, I don’t understand why I should expect perfection from ANY person.

I can’t remember that ,but i do remember there was a discussion that mentioned that nuns that were in Africa working, in case of rape were allowed birth control or even abortion by the Vatican to prevent pregnancy and child birth also probably in any third world country not just Africa…🤷 😛
I don’t believe the Vatican would ever allow this.
The whole point of the abortion issue is respect for the life of the child.
No matter how horrible the situation (rape, incest), it isn’t the baby’s fault.

As others have pointed out to you, an excommunication does not damn someone to hell. The fact that RCs thought that in the past just goes to show that we are fallible, like anyone else.

If you are justly excommunicated and do not repent and seek to be reconciled you die cut off from the Body of Christ, and therefore cannot be saved. However, it is true that someone may be unjustly excommunicated and therefore they still remain united to the Body.

Over-simplification, friend.

i have wondered to about this question. Its confusing when people say it is the one true church and yet these things have happened. Isn’t the Holy Spirit strong enough to stop this corruption?

It’s almost the same feeling I have for my favorite hospital. Dead bodies in the basement, sick people upstairs. Yet it is the best place to be in order to be saved from serious illness. 👍

…and I trust that you will understand that, when I was sick and came to your favourite hosiptal, all those dead bodies in the basement caused me to think that I needed better doctors…doctors guided more by the Great Physician and less by the administration. The hospital next door proved to have a superior staff of that sort. 😉

Too bad the docters at the hospital next door were practicing without a liscense, and were more concerned with how many patients thaey had than with actually healing anyone

A question…If the roman pontiff never had this supreme authority over all the bishops…and all the Bishops were equal and met in counsel…would Vatican two of happened or would it of been prevented by the more orthodox traditional bishops at that time… curious …😛

Can we please get something right. The Holy Spirit’s guidance is for Truth. Truth is bigger than the evil actions some people in the Church commit. That is why in the darkest days of the Church when it could have preached error, it still didn’t. The scoundrel Popes and bishops were too busy being scoundrels they did not teach.

I am not sure how many times in the Bible Jesus mentioned the devil, but in the one I do know, He called satan the father of lies in contrast with Himself who is the Truth.

He never said that He will send the Holy Spirit to guide His church into all goodness. He promised to send the Holy spirit to guide the Church into all Truth. And that promise has never failed.

No that wasn’t the Great Physician who was guiding your doctors, but an impostor. The Great Physician did warn that the impostor will appear to deceive and many will swallow the lie.😉
