Has anyone else delved into Catholic history and found the utter corruption and moral depravity shocking? I find it hard to really be proud of my Catholic roots when there is sooooooo much corruption in it. I wish it was one or two isolated incidences but corruption and lust for power seem to pervade every second of the Church’s history. 🤷 And it continues to this day.
One thought that helps me try to be humble is that very likely some of my ancestors may have been scrambling away, right in there with them.

nobody goes to prison without a trial. and some verdicts have been overturned.

Wow! I guess I have to do some researching on these issues then. I just felt that since the Church apologized, then she was obviously admitting guilt. I’ll get back to you.
Well technically, the guilt being admitted was guilt of members of the Church. It can’t be attributed to the Church, the spotless body of Christ. (Although I think you are correct in attributing the apology to the Church.)

Can you give us some examples? I am not saying we did not have problems or bad people in the church, we did. but I really would love if you can give us some disturbing things you heard about the church.
Which church? Every church has their problems.

The Catholic Church has been targetted by Protestants, especially Fundamentalists.

Being the first Christian Church the devil and his agents have always attacked the Church from the very beginning.

This is why we Catholics have a duty to know our faith well enough to be able to defend it. Not only that, we should always strive to grow in the faith.

I agree. I love my church and my faith. Thank you God for planting me in your church. :crossrc:

AAhh un-substantiated claims again. Stop parroting the devil please and READ, READ, READ. And the Truth will set you free.

Why are you so afraid to learn the truth?
The evidence is there you choose to ignore it.
I dont wish to relive the Reformation.
My point is and always is
The Roman Catholic Church is not what it claims to be.

You have chosen to live in a false reality and drink the koolaide.
That is your choice.

And what proof do you have that your church or version of history is correct?

Why on earth do you come to Catholic Answers if all you can do is be obnoxious and insulting? Why?

There is only one conclusion I can arrive at…
 :bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes: :frighten: :frighten:

At the risk of sounding simplisitic, if you’re Protestant than it pretty much goes without saying that you don’t believe the RCC is what we claim it is.

No one is innocent. All are not equally guilty, but no one is innocent. History itself is* ‘shocking’.*

It is really disturbing… Why did God allow so much murder, horrible deaths, and hate to prevail??! I can’t understand it. He certainly doesn’t seem like a loving just God, particularly in the Old Testament. Does anybody take that book seriously?

Have you never learnt that God gave us free will and it is the choices we make that result in the relative outcomes?

God is merciful and does not molycoddle us. I have suffered much and learnt of God’s mercy. He didn’t answer my prayers in the way I wanted. Instead he taught me to have a grateful heart and his response to my prayers turned out to be the best solution.

You need to study the Bible and the Catechism. My husband was an atheist/agnostic all his life and only converted 3 years ago. Today he attends daily Mass. You need to so some serious reading and praying.

God bless you.

How can you be a Catholic/agnostic? You attend church but aren’t sure why?
Everyone blames God, but no one blames the devil!

Is it just me? It seems that you are short of any kind of real arguments, but are content to throw soundbites around to anger Catholics, so you can take their cmments out of context to make us apper as short-tempered and intolerant. 🤷

You aren’t a politician are you? You seem to use their tactics.
