The New York State Catholic Conference, which represents New York State’s bishops in matters of public policy, stated that they would accept the legislation “provided the drugs are not contra-indicated, the woman is not pregnant, and it is within a medically appropriate amount of time from the attack.” The conference also requested that the language that states that emergency contraception “cannot and does not cause abortions” be removed from the bill. The problem is that how does one know when one is pregnant after just 1-3 days.
