Catholic hostility

I am a liberal Protestant. I used to post once in a while to Catholic Answers but–to be blunt–I found traditional Catholics extremely hostile: I got the distinct impression that they wanted to burn me at the stake. I have reread the Catholic Questions guidelines, and such attitudes seem hardly to fit them. I am sorry to start my participation in the CQ website on a negative note, but what is it that makes “rad trads” (as I gather they are called) so extremely obnoxious? It hardly bodes well for any efforts the Catholic Church may make for the evangelization of the noncatholic world.
Thanks for your attention.

Welcome back! I focus on Christ and being Catholic. I have been granted the grace of good relations with even Seventh Day Adventists - of which our chaplain at work was one. Talk about strange bedfellows! And my former co,-worker and coffee buddy is Nazarene. Much in common, and we focus on that.
As to rads, their prefix says it all. They seem to hate charismatics. This I do not understand as they have all read and heard Acts 2. Very puzzling.
Hint: You might want to edit the title, as it does not apply to the rest of us.

Some people are prickly, that will come out in their gardening club, their political discussions and sadly their religious interactions as well. Pray for hostile people, it cannot be a joy to live inside that head.

Some of them have this weird view of returning to the old Latin Mass, of using either old translations of the Bible or in Latin, or going back to an old version of the Catechism, and so on. But this only takes place in very few places of the Catholic world. For most, “tradition” means at most using the vernacular language and the OF of the Mass, but using old songs and sometimes even archaic versions of the vernacular.
