Well I scored an 80 which put me in both the neo-traditionist and traditionist catagories because they overlap for some reason. I consider myself a neo-traditionist in most things and traditionalist in others so it makes sense.

Meatless Fridays outside of Lent is optional, only a matter of personal discipline.
That test is bogus, I scored an 86, but when I hit the back button I changed the second to last question to “abolish the papacy” and it reduced my score to 83! Still a traditionalist!
I agree. The item weighting is not right.

I didnt know that. I thought it was year round at one time but it changed to seasonal. did it go back?

Dude,

Abstaining from meat was the required observance for Friday Penance. It was changed in the sense that the church no longer requires you to abstain from eating meat on Fridays. However, you are to practice another form of penance in lieu of abstinence.

You might say that abstinence from eating meat is the preferred Friday Penance.

Oops I accidentally checked neo-traditionalist before taking the quiz, but I scored 88, so I guess I’m a traditionalist.

My test results ‘reveal’ that:
You are a traditionalist Catholic
You wish the church would revive the time-honored customs and strong institutional discipline that prevailed before the Second Vatican Council. Your favorite hymn is probably “Immaculate Mary,” your favorite pope is Pius X, and your idea of a great Catholic movie is “The Bells of St. Mary’s.”

While, in actuality:
I am an orthodox and faithful Catholic, in my opinion, and as the term ‘traditionalist’ is so loaded that I wouldn’t want to be mistaken (even in this semi-anonymous forum) for someone with even the remotest connection with sedevacantist.

I wish that each and every parish and diocese would simply adhere to the fruits of Vatican II, and not attempt to add to what the councilor documents actually said, rather than the misinterpretations that have lead to the awful ‘spirit of Vatican II’ atrocities. I also pray that the horrible mistranslations of the new Missale Romanum will be corrected and wish that they had been corrected 30 years ago. My favorite Pope is actually the late John Paul II - but I have been a fan of Benedict XVI long before he became Pope. I do, however, admit a fondness for “The Bell’s of St. Mary’s” but, in fact, have enjoyed such ‘objectionable’ ‘Catholic’ films such as “Priest” and “Dogma” - the former for dealing with genuine occurrences and controversies facing the Church and with an ending that makes me weep and the latter in the spirit of Chesterton - “It is the test of a good religion whether you can joke about it” - and the liberal Cardinal Glick with his ‘Buddy Jesus’ is strong satire of the trendy liberal prelates.

88 <----my score. But my favourite Pope is Pope JP2 and Pope Benedict 16. Well i guess its because they are the only pope that i knew. :banghead:

I looked at the poll and said,"None of the catagories are appropreate. I’m an orthodox Catholic. 👍 So the quiz gives me an 84, Traditionalist. But the description is off. 😛

Your favorite hymn is probably “Immaculate Mary,” No, it’s Holy God We Praise Thy Name.

your favorite pope is Pius X, Don’t know enough about him, Pius XII is the one I grew up knowing.
  • your idea of a great Catholic movie is “The Bells of St. Mary’s.”* A nice little flick about some good nuns. The Passion of the Christ is a Catholic movie!
There were times I could have clicked on two answers, and once even three. These quizes are always lacking in reality, and whoever makes them is biased.

I am sure with ALL the great minds here at CAF, we could come up with a BETTER quiz. I had to also take some of the questions and apply them to how I would react as a Byzantine Catholic.

For example, our Fasts are More common throughout the church year and more days during the week to fast…so no wonder I would have chosen the most ‘strict’ answer they provided on that quiz.

Quizzes of this type are inherently bogus. To be otherwise, they would have to have many nuanced responses and allow multiple responses. Also, there would have more and nuanced labels.

I scored 87 which makes me a traditionalist, but I am unhappy with the label and the description they give this label.

Here’s my quick and sloppy revision:

You try your best to be an orthodox Catholic
You wish the church would be better at inculcating Catholic truths and and that your brothers and sisters in Christ would show a bit more of the self-discipline that prevailed before the Second Vatican Council and that they would not consider themselves coequal or superior to the pope. One of your favorite hymns is “On Eagles Wings,” your favorite pope, if you were forced to pick one, is John Paul II, and you think Mel Gibson makes some good points about religion and family.

I scored an 88. I could increase my score by buckling down and doing some things I’ve wanted to but have been to weak to follow through with like attending daily mass and not eating meat on Fridays.

There were some questions that were hard to answer like the one on prayer. I use traditional prayers, ejaculations, and my own words.

GOOD IDEA!!! Lets start our own quiz.
Sorry for bringing such a faulty quiz into this great Catholic Answers Forum. Next time I’ll examine the quiz before posting.
My sister tried the quiz and scored as a liberal. It was funny cause we are both conservative Catholics and in the Beautiful red state of Texas, liberalism is not a good thing. :rotfl:

I scored 86. I am traditional, not bad for a convert of less than a yr. I loved pope john paul II, don’t really know much about the other popes. I don’t eat meat on fridays, and I think liberals are really trying to go to far with vatican II. I am proud to be a tradionalist. It just seems that the quiz makes that seem to be a bad thing.

I scored a 70, so i’m liberal AND neo-traditional. There wasn’t a choice for that on the quiz! 😃

  1. That’s about right, I guess. You’re right, it isn’t the best quiz ever. We should make our own.
