Ok, so I have absolutely become enthralled with the missal and now have accumulated a couple different ones. When I am working and the patient is sleeping, I have a 1966 Mary Knoll daily (doesn’t align with EWTN) and I go through the daily service on my own. The order of mass is marked with a ribbon and I flip back and forth interjecting the corresponding readings. Where do the saints come in? Or is that an additional mass? So then I rounded up a couple old traditional missals from before the mass was changed. I’m not a Catholic but there seems to be schism going on between the old timers and the new style. I have found the old style to my liking. It’s like comparing a Rolls Royce (traditional) to a beat up Honda civic (new). The old one seems a lot more inspiring and reverential. That’s just my opinion but the new one seems cheap. Not for me.
So I am wondering that in the new Roman missal they have a 3 year cycle for daily mass but the old Mary Knoll and St Andrews don’t and it doesn’t line up with what I see online. But I have to say that whatever one I read, I really am being blessed. Still haven’t been to a mass yet. But I am definitely interested.
The most exciting thing is I was able to buy a D R edition of the Bible. My dad used to tell me the Catholic bible is the same as my King James so I would warm up to it. NO IT IS NOT! And I am glad to be able to see the difference. Anyhow, I am so hooked on the missal because in a sense I feel like I can go to church more than I am able to. Oh and one more thing, I found this little book of prayers by F.X.Lasance , AWESOME!!! What a blessing. And have been doing correspondence course throu by KofC. OK gotta go!

if you are trying to use the 1966 Maryknoll missal, then you will definitely have some confusion. First of all, the current Ordinary Form Mass uses, as you say, a 3 year cycle of readings. The older, Extraordinary Form Mass uses a 1 year cycle and most of the prayers are different. The 1966 Missal was used as a transitionary Missal as the Ordinary Form was developing.

I was married in 1966 and as a non Catholic, thought for years that I had attended the Traditional Mass, after I converted in 1970 I was stunned what had happened at our local parish with the new Mass.

Finally after many years we now have the Extraordinary Form at our parish. I use the Angelus Press issue. Some of my friends use the Baronius Press version.

If you attend the Ordinary Form Mass seek out a modern St. Joseph Missal. A nice one will set you back about $50.00.

God Bless

Hello and welcome!

I would say that you should go to mass and then see how you feel! Leave your old missals home and use the one in church. You may find that you will find the current mass quite “satisfying.”
