Catholic Knighthood? Is it relevant in today's society?

The KofC uses the term “knight” in their name, but has nothing really to do with knighthood, which was a military order.

Wearing uniforms which are reminiscent of those of knights isn’t the same.

The KofC is a fraternal organization, and has no more in common with knighthood than Freemasons have to do with the building trades.
In the Middle Ages, there was a preparation and ongoing formation, both mental and spiritual, and an expectation that a knight would follow a certain code of conduct.

In the K of C, after you join there is preparation or formation encouraged in Catholicism. Some accept that invitation and develop further, both mentally and spiritually, in terms of Catholic manhood.

The Order as a whole is strongly active in prolife, defending marriage, defending the priesthood. Both as individuals, and as local groups, Knights are often standing in prayer in front of the abortion clinic, or the March For Life.

Hello catholic_knighthood, Grand Pa Ray here, My story. I joined the Knights of Columbus and was very proud to become a defender of the faith. My experience during the race riots in the city of Milwaukee made me quit the Knights. I had just moved to Milwukee and a priest named Fr. Gropi was leading a march into one of the suburbs and i attempted to full fill my pledge to god to come to the aid of the priest in jepordy. I called the local chapter of the knights and was told they were trying to do something about him. My reaction was to go to the Bishops office and find out what was going on. They said they were trying to get him to stop. that was the end of the Knights for me. At the time I was very proud to be a catholioc.

Hello catholic_knighthood, Grand Pa Ray here, My story.
Hello GrandPaRay,

Sorry to hear about your incident. I’m not familiar with the situation and so can’t speak to that. Suffice it to say though that like every human institution, the propensity towards sin and error is always tugging to be realized. The good news is that we as Catholics do not worship people or things, but a loving God who sent His son into the world to forgive all of our transgressions and to let us start afresh in our walk with Christ.

We go to Church and participate in the Sacraments not for the particular Priest or the particular clergy, or this choir sings better than that one, but to serve God and to be in community with other people of faith. Every parish and diocese has a distinct culture or flavor, and every KofC council does too. I would encourage you to find a council and parish where you feel accepted and nurtured in your faith, and let God work healing for you so you can move beyond the previous unfortunate situation. I’ll be praying for you and everyone involved.

catholic_knighthood, I do not now or ever had a propensity to sin and error because of the institutions i associated with. Have you ever met God? Did you ever take an oath to God to come to the aid of a priest in danger? I no longer accept faith as reliable way to find truth.
