The pontiff came under fire from the Muslim community for quoting a 14th century Byzantine emperor who said the Prophet Mohammed had brought “things only evil and inhuman”, during a speech in Germany.
But, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales said the lecture was attempting to build on previous speeches in which Pope Benedict said everyone must “seek the paths of reconciliation” and learn to live “with respect”. A spokeswoman said: "This is an opportunity to build on the message which Pope Benedict XVI was trying to proclaim when he spoke with young Muslims in Cologne in August 2005 that **‘the lessons of the past must teach us to avoid repeating the same mistakes. We must seek the paths of reconciliation and learn to live with respect for each others’ identity.’ **

Does anyone have a link to the actual speech itself in it’s entirety?

It doesn’t matter what the Bishops have to say concerning the Pope’s speech, the extremist in the Islamic religion, were acking for an excuse to go after the Catholic Church.

Pope John Paul II’s holiness was too much for them and they couldn’t attack him, without looking like complete fools.

It will not be the same with this Pope however.

Plan for terrorist attacks against Catholic’s in Western Europe.

Well that might be good news then as it might take weeks for Islamist to find a significant amount of catholics in western Europe. The Vatican was somewhat dissapointed that the Pope’s audiences in Germany were routinely 100,000 people short of expectations. Its far easier for them to just target simply westerners and say it was in retribution for what the Pope said.
Its funny but few westerners in Europe really cared enough to pay attention to what the Pope said but the Islamist seemed to pay attention to his speach when they said something they didn’t like. Europe needs to wake up an realize its Catholic heritage lest they all be foreced to convert to Islam.

The braveness and the truth bothers now but it´s the unique way to do well the things.

Two churches in the West Bank were fire bombed Saturday, in response to the Pope’s speech.

I’ve been reading a good book on the differences between Sunni and Shia Muslims. It’s making sense to me, why the outrage towards the Pope is coming from the Sunni’s.

If Islam wants to be considered a religion of peace, then it must speak out against the bombings, in the same way our late Pope John Paul II spoke out against sins by Catholics----and there is the rub----the Muslims don’t think the Church should be allowed to speak out against terrorists since it had the Inquisition, but I have not seen any mainstream Muslim group apologize for the terrorist acts committed by their own.

To be sure, we Catholics must speak out against the violence commited by some, allegedly in the name of Christ, by our own, especially in such places as Northern Ireland (is it still going on?).

A group that does not condemn injustice among its own members (ours or theirs) cannot possibly be a good witness to peace.

They don’t care what the world thinks, they only care on defending Islam, which they believe is under attack by the West.
The war in Iraq only helped fuel this thinking.

So, should this change the way we behave?

It’s better to speak out against injustices caused by your own, than the injustices caused by others, especially when those injustices were committed 600 years ago.
