best general family mag to replace USC- Our Sunday Visitor or Faith and Family, or both
apologetics This Rock, of course
monthly new roundup Catholic World Report
newspaper to replace National Catholic Reporter (which should be titled National Heretic weekly) National Catholic Register
Liguorian is good
That is all I read regularly, besides Lay Witness, except for stuff related to my job
for catechists out there, forget both Catechist Magazine and RTJ, and get the Sower, published in England but now available in the US.

I get liguorian & Catholic Answer I think.

I decided against getting US Catholic. Thanks so much for all your help everyone!

I also like This Rock and Catholic Digest which is the same size as Reader’s Digest. Also I like the Ligurorian and Catholic Extension magazine which has been around for generations.

There is a great magazine out there called Faith and Family. I highly recommend this one.

Plus hopefully you subscribe to your diocesan newspaper.
or Our Sunday Visitor.

My little brother is doing some fundraising thing where they sell magazines. He really wants me to get one, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good Catholic magazine?

Also, This Rock and Crisis are both good, but I personally like The Catalyst.

Another member of the forums has posted that the current issue of Crisis is available online at: insidecatholic.com

(just click on the link below the word “Catholic” in the title)

Just renewed my subscription to National Catholic Register and soon to renew my Faith and Family subscriptions through my son’s school magazine drive.😉

NO! The Catholic Answer is an Our Sunday Visitor publication. It IS very good, though.

Myself, I get:

-The National Catholic Register (a great weekly paper)

-Catholic Digest-think Reader’s Digest for Catholics. Sometimes it’s borderline questionable when it gets into theology but it has some great articles. It’s definitely oriented toward women but enjoyable for men, too.

-Faith and Family-this is a 6 times a year magazine published by the same folks that do NCR. It’s rock solid and full of great parenting tips.

If you liked Crisis, you’d also like First Things by Fr. Richard John Neuhaus. Some people are drawn to New Oxford Review. It is a journal that TRIES to be solidly Catholic. However, the editor (Dale Vree), in my opinion, writes every article as if he has a grudge or chip on his shoulder. He does rightly point out all that’s wrong with the Church but he can be unnecessarily nasty in his critiques. He seems to take special delight in pointing out the failings of any Catholic publication other than his own.

I have never in over forty years ever seen anything contrary to Catholic faith and morals, scandalous, or unsuitable for readers of any age in Field & Stream.
