I need to receive a good Catholic magazine. I want stories of evangelization, conversion and of course, apologetics. I received one for a few months, but chose not to renew because the articles were too heady (seemed to be written for religious). So, I would like to know what magazines others like to read and why?

I don’t have one Jack, but if you go to a catholic store maybe you would be able to find one or a few good ones. Our Catholic
store has everything, thanks be to God.

Of course “This Rock” for apologetics.

“The Liguorian” is published by the Redemptorists and is a pretty good all around magazine - some academic stuff, some spiritual, some conversion, usually a fiction piece.

Catholic Digest is pretty good, too. I consider it light reading - generally stories of conversion, spirituality and the coporeal works of mercy, with some health and living stuff, too.

This Rock hands down. It’s the only magazine of any category that I have read cover to cover. My 16 year old daughter likes it as does my wife (although they only read selected articles). The only suggestion I have is that a little humor provide a contrast to some of the heavy articles, like Envoy, another magazine I enjoy from time to time.

 Hi

My ultimate two favorites are:

The Rock
Envoy

Although very expesive … they are AWESOME and put them between the electric and gas bill.

I can’t believe that more serious Catholics don’t know about these magazines. They are awesome.

My least favorite - although very good — is Crisis.

I really like the New Oxford Review. They never shy away from controversy, and they don’t sugar coat anything. Plus, there’s a lively “Letters” section in which people can share their opinions. They have articles about apologetics, history, current events in the Church (and the world) conversion stories, book reviews, movie reviews, you name it.

There aren’t any glossy four-color photographs. In fact, there’s no color at all! But the writing is superior to anything else to which I’ve subscribed, and I think I’ve subscribed to all of the Catholic magazines out there (except America!) at one time or another.

The NOR is my favorite.

The Catholic World Report and the National Catholic Register are both good IMHO. Not to be confused with the National Catholic Reporter, which is a liberal publication and a real rag.

Crisis Magazine is my favorite. Very interesting and up to date on Catholic issues.🙂

For Me–it is This Rock folloewed by Envoy. Those are the best!!

Best - National Catholic Register

Worst - National Catholic Reporter (in fact I do not even consider this Catholic)

This Rock is my favorite - although I don’t get any others.

Some of the articles get a little deep for me. However, as I become more informed about the teachings of the Church I am able to take it all in better with each issue. I’ve been waiting fo the next issue. When is is coming out???

I stopped my *Parenting *subscription a couple of years a go when there was an article about " My Two Mommies (sp?)".

I now only get Catholic magazines.

For Family life I get Faith and Family and Catholic Parent. LOVE them both.

For my daily meditations and scripture I get Magnificat and Word Among Us.
I also started getting This Rock. I love it too.

I agree with everybody else…

This Rock for apologetics, Crisis for Church issues (and lots of other interesting stuff), Magnificat is one of a kind.

I’ve recently started to get First Things. It’s a pretty good read also.

This Rock is very good magazine. Others to consider are Crisis, Envoy, and the newspaper one I think it’s called National Catholic Reporter, but one of my favorites is Laywitness by Catholics United for the Faith- CUF. All these are good sources for reading.

Crisis is read cover to cover in one sitting at my house. The Magnificat is beautiful and a daily companion.
