St. Anthony’s Messenger

and

New Oxford Review ( a conservative periodical)
a conservative periodical is a “conservative” adjective to describe it.

This Rock…

Because It Rocks…

Plus, I Really Enjoy The Q & A Section…

Does anyone know of any good ones? Preferably ones that are conservative or at least moderate. The only one I really know about is Commonweal.

I’m going to subscribe to This Rock because I’m very interested in apologetics and evangelization. (Most past issues are archived on the web, and the quality of writing is amazing.)

I just got my first issue of Magnificat and it’s a beautiful little magazine with an incredible amount of inspiration in it.

There’s a list of Catholic magazines on the Catholocity site:
catholicity.com/links/categories.html?catid=10

I don’t know whether that list is screened for orthodoxy or not, though it seems to be, with just the quick look I gave it. The magazines that I’ve heard complaints about (for not supporting tradition and faithfulness to the Magesterium) don’t seem to be listed there.

I recently started subscribing to Inside the Vatican and This Rock. Both are excellent and conservative.

Commonweal used to be the most reliable voice for American Catholic laity on how to live out the faith in the workplace and political arena, now it is just another liberal blog on paper. America used to be the voice of the Catholic intellectual, now it is just a bunch of old marginalized Jesuits in name only spouting the same anti-papal anti-authority rhetoric. US Catholic used to be a good magazine for the layman in the pew, now it is a guide for the dissenter in the pew, something you can quote to justify your defiance and outright sins.

National Catholic Reporter used to be a reliable news source about Catholics in this country and around the world confronting and combatting evil, now it is the official mouthpiece and media outlet for every dissenter, heretic and bible-basher who still clings to the Catholic name to which they have no right.
Catholic journalism has been affected by the same disease that is destroying journalism as a whole. It has turned from reporting and commentating on the news, to providing a forum for the reporters to disseminate their own opinions and uninformed views.

Well said and so true!:clapping:

Just a clarification, if needed…

National Catholic REPORTER - liberal. I automatically disregard almost every quote I see attributed to them.

National Catholic REGISTER - orthodox and good reading!

Here in Canada:

I read First Things, the Interim & Catholic Insight.

If you are in Canada, avoid Catholic New Times.

So true…the name similarity is too close for comfort. The REPORTER is horrible. :irish1:

The REGISTER is great! 👍

I subscribed to This Rock last year because of all the wonderful things I had heard about it. It has seemed to become less and less directed toward the average person and more and more directed toward official, formal, apologetics.

I enjoy St. Anthony Messenger. Also Our Sunday Visitor is good too. OSV is nice because it’s weekly and everything is up to date. 👍

Hello all,
I subscribe to “Crisis” and “Gilbert!” magazines, both of which I find to have valuable articles. However, I am also interesting in finding out more about “Catholic World Report” and “First Things” magazines (don’t know if I’ll have time for all four, but I can always let a subscription or two lapse).

Does anyone subscribe to either of these two magazines (CWR or FT) and if so, would you be willing to share your thoughts on the value of these magazines?

I am looking for recomendations for magazines. I get New Oxford Review which I really enjoy. Are their any others that are worth reading? To give a better idea of what I am looking for I rate the NOR as a 9 and Catholic Digest at less than zero. Thanks.

I enjoy “Faith & Family”

I am curious, why the low rating for CD?
