That was my recollection as well. Of course, I’m from Pittsburgh.

Interesting! I keep looking up more information with each of these posts. Based on what I’m reading, I think both “babushka” and “babcia” were derived from “baba,” and the use of “babushka” to mean a certain type of headscarf was linked to the fact that these scarves were often worn by elderly women. Oh, and “babushka” is the Russia term…so likely, Polish families that use it were influenced by the Russian language in some way.

At least, that’s my current impression, based on “Dr. Google”…I could still be mixed up somewhere. 😅

I’m not sure what the picture is supposed to be, but I took it as indicative of someone who finally crafted the perfect reply, but the thread is now locked because it’s past the 14 day time limit.
 
I have a group of Catholic guy friends at my school -we read the Daily Readings together, etc - and this is an ongoing inside reference between us haha

Accurate. The image is shinny yellow gold symbolizing the perfect reply. Only it could not be placed as the time limit was up.

Are Ukrainians and Ruthenians “not slavic enough”?

Both of those churches are Catholic, with the orthodox counterparts created only later . . .

Slavic Christianity started in Kiev . . .
