My godmother suffers from asthma. Sometimes it’s so bad that she can’t enter the Church days after we’ve used incense. It’s not that easy for everyone.
It’s not always easily done. Each mass we have at our parish has elderly or even younger people in the first or second row, often with oxygen, walkers, canes or even wheelchairs. Personally, I have asthma and know what it’s like to have incense around. It’s not pleasant.
That’s odd. I have asthma but have never had problems with incense. Maybe different types being used in different parishes? There is a wide variety including hypoallergenic mixtures.
My new pastor started doing that. He advertises in the bulletin which Masses are incense free. I think it’s mainly because he loves incense so much that he doesn’t have to feel bad about using a lot of it because he lets people know how to avoid it.
I think it’s a good idea to do though. Some people really can’t be around it, so it’s nice to give them a heads up.
