I never had to do a Baptism prep class when my kids were baptized. I guess my pastor at the time figured my degree in theology was sufficient. 😝

At my current parish, we only have parents attend for the 1st child, too.
 
We had a baptism at our parish where Father made a slight deviation from the script.

“Do you understand what the church asks of you?”
“We do”
“You should, it’s your 5th”
“6th”

I always find this baffling. Jerseyans certainly have a strong accent (or more properly, accents, depending on the proximity to NYC or Philly) but I don’t know where the stereotypical “oi” sound ever came from. It can vary with pronunciations like “Cherzee” or “Jairsee”. By the way, the capitol of Trenton is often pronounced “Treh-in” 😉

But the “oi” is odd. It would be like trying to do a French accent and then drawing from other unrelated accents: “Where aboot did you pahhk ya cahh, eh?”
 
That’s actually a Brooklyn accent from 100 years ago or so that has been attributed to Jersey for some reason (probably Brooklynites who moved there).
 
That makes sense. It’s like that show “Jersey Shore” where most of the people are from New York. I sometimes want to yell at them, “We can embarrass ourselves just fine without you!” 😃

It’s starting to become a Florida accent with all the people moving there. 🥴
 
I was trying to come up with a witty reference to Frank Costanza and “Del Boca Vista.” Then I realized that I’m probably one of only a handful of Seinfeld fans on CAF.
