Umm… people who have misunderstandings about the Catholic faith. That is the title of this thread, isn’t it?
My apologies to have misinterpretted you:

Thinking “God died on the cross” is not a Catholic misunderstanding; It is the case.

Not thinking “God died on the cross” is a non-Catholic misunderstanding.

Well, when the majority of Catholics don’t even know that Jesus is present in the Blessed Sacrament, or even that Jesus is actually God, then they could be confused about God being the one who died on the cross.

Since many of these misunderstandings are lies, do you think the Protestant are deceived ( by the Father of lies?) because they believe them to be true?

Objection. Leading question.
I do hope none of the Protestants believe these misunderstanding to be true because they aren’t true. They are misunderstanding, or misconception about the Catholic Church.

Misunderstanding 65: Catholics have to eat fish on Fridays.

That was actually cited to me by a Protestant as the reason he would never become Catholic. He didn’t like fish.
I love fish. Must be why I’m Catholic.

Manny, I think you shouldn’t be worried about this for now. There are some who already think it that way and that’s what we’ve been explaining to them. Some others just learned from their pastors. We soon can have a page with many links to different articles to explain each of the misunderstandings in the list. This will beneficial to many who have never had a closer to at Catholic faith.

I do too, but unfortunately I’m allergic to white fish. I’m stuck with shellfish, tuna, and salmon.

And since I’m the one doing the cooking, we eat lots of pasta dishes during Lent.

I’m not a big pasta eater (and yes, I’m Italian, but northern and pasta isn’t the mainstay of our diets) but that’s ok because I’m also diabetic and pasta seems to be my main nemesis.

Fish Fry tomorrow!

I’m beginning to think Protestantism is the work of the devil. They persist in their lies even though they don’t know they are lies. Why do they make false statement against the Church.

Many of their claims against the Church are lies.

Yet Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Yet we see in Protestants they are taught false misconception of Catholicism. Does Jesus teach lies? I don’t think he does. I truly believe Protestantism doctrine (not the people) is the work of the Devil, Prince of Lies.

Could we all start a list of some non-Catholic Christians misunderstand about Catholic?

I would like to have this list and later have all in one web page, and have answers for each of the misunderstandings. This could be helpful for both Catholic and non-Catholic.

Misunderstanding 1 - Catholic is a man-made religion
Misunderstanding 2 - Catholic worship Virgin Mary
Misunderstanding 3 - Priest or Pope cannot save you
Misunderstanding 4 - Catholic pray to the dead
…
Thanks!

Note: If you are kind enough, please do not debate, just a list of things is good enough. Even if you are not Catholic, and you think we are doing something wrong, you are more than welcomed to list them here.

I think one of the biggest diffulties for many is the place and purpose of the sacraments in the Christian life - &, underlying this, the meaning of the sacramental principle.

We’re asked not to debate, so making statements of that sort is just a bit unfair, no 🙂 ?

Yes, but you are doing better work in charity than other Protestants who persist in the Errors of the Church. You seem to understand Catholicism than those who knows little about it.

Misunderstanding 66: “The Catholic Mary is a devil!” – this is an exact quote from an Anti Catholic website. What a shame to this people!

Yet another lie from an Anti-Catholic. You wonder who influence them to preach lies? I don’t think its the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. I don’t think the Holy Spirit spread lies.

misunderstanding 67: Catholics are brained washed by the Catholic Church by her erroneous teachings. I heard that one from a Non-Catholic Christian.

#68. The Catholic Church today is not the same as the original Catholic Church. It apostacized at some point in time. (A Protestant said that on another thread.)

These misunderstandings of the church should be printed out in like a pamphlet or book or something “101 Common Misunderstandings Of The Catholic Church” haha… I have alot of non Catholic friends who I think would learn alot from something like that.

Misunderstanding 65: Most Catholics are superstitious
Misunderstanding 66: Why Catholics believe that unborn babies are human and therefore have souls
Misunderstanding 67: Why should priests be celibate and why not women priests
Misunderstanding 68: Why believe in Holy Presence in the Host

I just ran into one, which I have encountered before: Many Protestants (& probably others) believe that all Catholics are bound to believe in & agree with, every single word spoken (or written) by each & every pope in history.
This leads to a lot of arguments around here…I just found it again. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times this is explained to not be true, when it comes to a discussion, there is thought to be a big blow to Catholics, if you can find even one pope in history, who ever said one thing that disagreed with another pope. Or that disagreed with standard doctrine.
I have heard this from friends too…
The second is related: That Catholics believe that when a pope sits in a particular chair that is kept at the Vatican, he is somehow speaking infallible truth…Its a common mistake about what “papal infallibilty” means…
