Many times God will permit the devil to work an apparent good in order to seduce people away from God.

Stay with this point why does God allow Lucifer to test people and distract and deceive people surely this brings them away from the truth !

Because then it’s extra delicious if they end up choosing God! See the book of Job for an example. God gets crowing rights over Satan.

I have been deceived in the past because I lacked knowledge and that could send me to hell!!

How is this fair ?

Souls do not end up in hell because of things they, through no fault of their own, did not know. God is merciful. Now that you have knowledge of what leads souls to eternal damnation, try being grateful that you’re that much more able to avoid such a fate. This knowledge should give you peace, not increase your anxiety.

Calliope, God, by simple definition is not malice, ego, or a braggart.
Therefore your statement about ‘crowing rights’ is incredible and unfounded in any Catholic or indeed christian theology.

John, reading your threads , I would ask if you have scruples, or perhaps OCD or similar?

To go to hell as you put it, requires that a person commits a mortal sin. You stated you lacked knowledge and because you lacked this knowledge you were deceived.
For a person to commit a mortal sin, they have to have FULL knowledge - not think it might be, not find out later that it was grave matter.
A mortal sin consists of:-
  1. Grave matter/serious matter
  2. FULL knowledge that it is
  3. FULL consent of the will
If any of these are lacking, then a mortal sin was not committed.
So if something you learn now or realise now is grave matter, that doesn’t change the sin when you committed it BACK THEN /IN THE PAST to a mortal sin.
