Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry you are going through this.I’ve had PCOS for years since I was a Freshman in college and never took Birth Control Pills to protect my uterine lining. **Occasionally I was given Provera (progesterone) to shed my lining, but it was infrequent over the years. ** I’m 42 years old now, never been married, have no children and am open to life and marriage and children. However, I am now faced with uterine hyperplasia. Although I’ve been praying for a miracle and going the conservative route to treat this condition, hysterectomy is a real viable treatment unfortunately for what I’m experieincing because although Megase (a synthetic progesterone) treatment has helped eradicate the hyerplasia (thickened endometrium), atypical cells were found in my latest biopsy at the beginning of July. The pathologists did a stain for cancer on them, and a small foci of atypical cells that did not strongly diffuse for carcinoma but contained some that had with some/ weak diffusion. ?? Because is was non-diagnostic but still concerning, the gynocological oncologist who is treating me is concerned with the atypical cells and had to in his professional opinion suggest a hysterectomy or another D&C (I’ve had 2 already this year). The atypical cells in the biopsy are a precancerous condition and could also be an indication of an occult cancer. This is very scary, and I’m struggling with decision making because every fiber of my being wants to save my fertility and still be open to life but worries about the uncertainty of it all. ??? I’m struggling with trusting God although I know that He is capable of miracles and capable of everything. So…as of right now, I’ve decided to go in for a 3rd D&C (in two weeks July 24th) so that the doctor will have a larger sample to send to the pathologist for better evaluation and characterization of the atypical cells (hopefully there won’t be any is my prayer), and I’ll still have the opportunity to be treated conservatively. Why am I writing all this in detail…??? Perhaps I am sharing because I need prayers and prayers and more prayers. And also because this current condition of mine is the result of years of irregular, very irregular and often absent for months and months at a time, periods. **Had I taken birth control pills, which I didn’t, I might not be in the current health situation I’m in with possible uterine cancer and/or precancerous uterine cells that might make having to remove my uterus in a hysterectomy my only option. ** And…had I taken birth control pills in my younger years, it wouldn’t have been for the intent of preventing conception but for the health of my uterine lining over the long term. Had I known what I know now, I might have asked to be put on birth control pills…??? I don’t know???..I’m just saying that I did things right and was never on the pill, but because of PCOS and not regularly shedding a lining like I would have, had I been on birth control pills, I might not now be facing the potential loss of my uterus when I’m so desiring marriage, children and a family. It’s stressful and heart breaking. Any and all prayers for my situation would be appreciated. I’m trying to be open to life still and God’s will but also responsible to the care of my temple as I traverse these uncertain and rough waters with having to deal with my health situation in the near future.![]()
This is a sobering reminder that you cannot ignore PCOS or simply stay away from the “bad contraceptives.” The uterine lining should be shed at minimum 4x per year (every three months) to prevent hyperplasia. Whether using provera every 3 months or OCPs monthly, please use something to shed the lining.
