Catholic Olympian making headlines

I confess that I rooted for the Russian ice dancer after seeing her kiss an object (medl or cross I assume) and bless herself before taking to the ice. I was surprised the network let that on air.
 
The Russian ice dancer crossed herself in the Orthodox (or Eastern) manner, from right to left, because she could be a Russian Orthodox.

However, Russian Catholics also cross themselves the Eastern way, while we, Latins (West), do it from left to right.
 
What wins me over is those who have the most hardship backstories and what it took for them and their familys sacrifice. They could be from any country, religious, not religious, gay or straight…I root for the underdogs with the most poingent backstory. 🙂
