Catholic or "Christian"?

Where I work there is a club for “Bible-based Christians”.

I sent them an email asking what “Bible-based Christian” means, but never got a reply. I guess if you have to ask…
Just go to their Bible study and compare Bibles. When you can’t find the Book of Wisdom (among others), ask them why they took wisdom out of the Bible.

Take a stack of real Bibles with you and hand them out to the club so that they can study the fullness of the Word rather than just an abridged version. Or just tell them that it’s the Director’s Cut of the Bible.

😉

Christoholic?
You guys crack me up! :rotfl:

Isn’t anyone else annoyed by the question “Are you Catholic or Christian?”

I’ve been asked this several times by both Protestants and shockingly Catholics. It’s been especially annoying when I tell them “Catholic is Christian” and they say “No! Christians sing and have bands and pastors” :doh2:

:dts: Anyone else encountered this problem or was asked this question?
Depends how they mean it. You can usually tell right away if your dealing with an anti Catholic.

If someone says Catholic OR Christian…I’ll correct them.
If they won’t accept that Catholics ARE Christian even after it’s been explained to them, then you’re just dealing with a bigot.

When I was in elementary school, I knew a little girl who was Catholic (there were probably more, but she was the only one I knew was Catholic, as she had gone to Catholic school before our public elementary school - this was in Ontario, Canada.) For some reason, a group of us were having a discussion about what religion we all were. (We were deep thinking little kids.)

I said “Christian” because we kinda went to whatever church “suited us” when I was little, or sometimes no church at all.

This little girl said she was Catholic, and someone asked what the difference was between Catholic and Christian. She shrugged, and I said, “It just means more religious…they go to church EVERY Sunday!”

I have no idea where I learned that, but apparently it did me some good because I became Catholic about 15 years later!! 😃

Oh yes :sad_yes: The whole “Protestants are more religious argument.” I encountered this, when my friend (I don’t know if he was Deist, Agnostic, or an Atheist) was talking about sex before marriage, and my friend said “The Bible doesn’t allow that kind of stuff, right David?” and I remember a friend of mine (a Catholic, surprisingly) saying “No, Christians believe that.”

In fact most of my friends thought I was an Evangelical Protestant because I was very religious, when I told them I was Catholic they said “Oh, I thought you were Christian!” :dts:

I should have clarified, I thought Catholics were the more religious ones, based on my identification of myself as a Christian, but our family was sporadic about church attendance, as were most of the other Christians I knew. I’ll edit my post to reflect this. 🙂

ETA: Whoops, didn’t realize I couldn’t edit it now! Oh well. 🙂

Growing up in an non-Catholic neighborhood, “Christian” meant “closer to God than Catholics.”

In some circles, Catholic means “worshipping the anti-Christ”, or “worshipping the whore of Babylon.”

My wife and I attended a cocktail party once, and sitting in the center of one room was a woman, saying in a very soft but penetrating voice, “I don’t know why, but I just hate Catholics. I don’t hate anyone else. Just Catholics.”

To anyone who says that Catholics aren’t Christians, perhaps we should consider asking them by what authority they make that claim.

At a young age, my dad (a non-Catholic Christian) told me that “just because you are catholic does not mean you are a Christian.” I answered by saying that if a Catholic follows the teachings of the Church than they are indeed Christian…the conversation ended there.

Some Christians will say that no one is a Christian unless you can say yes with 100% certainty to the question that …If you died tonight, do you know that you would go to heaven?

Others will say you must be “baptised in the spirit and speak in tongues” to be a full Christian.

My brother gets offended with the word Protestant. I usually use non-Catholic instead of Protestant. We´re twins, raised non-Catholic. I converted. He didn´t. Pray for him. Are you Christian or Catholic? I´m a Christian and know it. You´re a Christian and don´t. God bless:thumbsup:👍👍

This is a question that happens, but does not bother me much. I get more upset when people call me worshiper and tell me the Holy Father is actually the anti-Christ. Or when someone makes one of thous distasteful, corny Catholic jokes about priest and abuses.

You mean “Mary worshiper”?

That’s awful! :dts: I’ve seen most of it happen on TV, but less in real life, but I remember a friend telling me the pope is “not a man of God.” :sad_yes: I asked him how he knows this and he said that “the Bible says there will be many men who are not of God”, I think he meant Anti-Christs 🤷, as to how he’s know the Bible’s talking about the pope, I don’t know.

God bless :byzsoc:

Yes, Mary Worshiper lol. I need to pay closer attention when I type! 😃

And the Bible does talk about the Pope. In fact it talks about the First Pope and how he was given the office 😉
