Catholic or "Christian"?

This is a question that happens, but does not bother me much. I get more upset when people call me worshiper and tell me the Holy Father is actually the anti-Christ. Or when someone makes one of thous distasteful, corny Catholic jokes about priest and abuses.
When I hear someone constantly attacking the church, priests, etc through bad jokes, false information, etc I usually ask them:

Why are you constantly bashing the RCC? Apparently there is something that attracts you to it or do you simply feel threatened?

Hi,

I’ll have to remember to use this next time. Very good point and thanks for sharing this insightful post.

God bless.

Me too :yup:

What irritates the bejezzus:banghead: out of me is when they find out I am catholic and get that scared look and try to quietly move away. :doh2:

Not a problem! Any time…

Isn’t anyone else annoyed by the question “Are you Catholic or Christian?”

I’ve been asked this several times by both Protestants and shockingly Catholics. It’s been especially annoying when I tell them “Catholic is Christian” and they say “No! Christians sing and have bands and pastors” :doh2:

:dts: Anyone else encountered this problem or was asked this question?
So are you Catholic or Christian? 😃

(running away fast) 😃

My favorite reply to this is
“I’m Catholic, we’re the original Christians!”😛

Most people don’t know what to say!
Wish I had thought of this response years ago, in a job interview.

Four “Christian” doctors were interviewing (read that grilling) me, asking questions that were not allowed legally, such as : do you have children and will you be having any more? Are you Christian? And so on.

I replied that I was Catholic. One of them responded “Well, I guess Catholics can be considered Christian”. That one peeved me. I wanted so much to stand up and say we were the original followers of Christ, not you Protestants, but I kept my mouth shut (for a change).

I go to the First Church of Christ; I’m a Catholic. 😃

Them: Are you Catholic or Chiristin?
Me: Both

Fellow Catholic: “. . . we celebrate or Catholic-Christian faith . . .”
The “Catholic-Christian” really bothers me for some reason. Perhaps because it’s redundant, but also because it is almost like we have to assert to others that we are Christian.

Yes, I feel the same way…it can appear as if there can be a Catholic who is not a Christian when we use the term “Catholic Christian.”

Laughing, because when we drive by the local Church of Christ, my daughter tends to comment that it can’t be because it’s not Catholic.

I had no idea that Catholics weren’t considered Christians in some circles until I was in college and found that some of my friends were praying for me.

Maybe Protestants can ask the same question of some of you? Not that there is any “Protestant bashing” on this board by Catholics…😃

Perhaps instead of “bashing” anyone…we should seek to understand one another.🤷

this happened on an article on facebook that was posted on a group I am on. The article said “You can’t be Catholic and Pro Abortion”. Someone replied you can’t be something something, but you can be a Catholic and do bad things" and someone else said you can’t be a Catholic and “Be saved”. The person that said THAT claimed he had been raised Catholic but didn’t like or understand Confession and even had once studied for the Priesthood!

The problem is there are tracts out there like Jack Chick that constantly attack Catholicism,. There are anti Catholics all over that spread hate and say that Catholics aren’t Christian.

I am glad I am a Catholic Christian. We don’t use bands for music, we have the Eucharist and we don’t have an empty cross. The Crucifix is there to remind us that Salvation was not free.

Nope! I do not spend my time attacking or writing bogus material against Protestants, big difference.
