As noted above, there has been over 30 years of continuing dialogue. Significant statements were made jointly following several of these sessions, where agreement has been reached on fundamental issues. The role of the Papacy is now on the agenda. General agreement has been reached at the last major session on the historical analysis of the Papacy. Now the hard part - how might the Papacy best serve a reunified Church?Yes, but Catholics say things will be different this time.
The Pope will have to give up his power over the whole Church. His power will be no more or no less then that of the heads of the Russian Orthodox Church or Greek Orthodox. His power would be limited to his area.
It would be this way or the highway. Thats the way it would be; it up to you if you wish to do so. We are waiting for your answer??? The only answer on your part is YES there is no other answer.
And, conversely, if the Patriarch of Moscow wanted to become Roman Catholic, he would have to accept Roman Catholic teaching including the role of the Pope. But I don’t see any reason to think that the Pope is going to become Orthodox or that the MP is going to become RC, except in some naive fantasy. The Pope will have to give up his power over the whole Church. His power will be no more or no less then that of the heads of the Russian Orthodox Church or Greek Orthodox. His power would be limited to his area.
The Pope does not have power over the whole Church - that is for Christ alone. Rather, the Pope has been entrusted with responsibility for the unity of the Church, the preaching and spread of the Gospel, and the defense and teaching of the True Faith. The Pope will have to give up his power over the whole Church. The list you just gave doesn’t seem to mention Universal Ordinary Jurisdiction.Rather, the Pope has been entrusted with responsibility for the unity of the Church, the preaching and spread of the Gospel, and the defense and teaching of the True Faith.
… and the scope of his jurisdiction would be?The pope of rome title would change to Patriarch of Rome this has a good ring to it would you agree??? It is much better…
bear with me …The list you just gave doesn’t seem to mention Universal Ordinary Jurisdiction.
I’ve heard “Patriarch of the Latin Church” suggested. The pope of rome title would change to Patriarch of Rome this has a good ring to it would you agree??? It is much better…
That is easy Patriarch of Rome not pope that will limit. He is one among many.
So by logical extension you would also agree that the Patriarch of Moscow should “stay in” Russia?I don’t agree; Patriarch of Rome is much better not latin church. Who knows it could maybe 50 years. The Patriarch of Rome would stay in Italy that would be under his control not in other counties.
That’s interesting, but not relevant to your assertion. Should the Patriarch of Moscow, as you put it for the Patriarch of Rome, “stay in” Russia?Remember I part of ROCOR
