This story is based on junk science at best. In terms of what the average temperature of Earth since the beginning of life on our planet, we are still lower than the average. For most of the time of existance of life on Earth there have not been ice caps, therefore most climatologists consider us to still be in an ice age, allbeit we are very slowly coming out of it over time(centuries). To think we as mankind are big and bad enough to have major effect on the cimate of the whole globe is very boastfull and boisterous. Remember God is in control!
My friend, I do not doubt for a minute that God is in control… we also have free will. We can chose to ignore the impact our actions have or we can chose to make changes in our lives that reflect or understanding that all people are precious to our heavenly Father - so I chose to try to do what I can.
Blessings

Only God’s actions don’t have limit of effect unless he so chooses. We as humans are not infinite beings , so the effects of our actions are also finite.

There have been times that our actions have done damage - we recognized the damage and did something about it – look at our rivers and lakes in the US - (not the Gulf right now!) but we have made improvements - so I believe we can make the changes necessary to mitigate climate change… we can take action that will make the world a place where all people can live and thrive or we can make choices that will lead to global food crisis, climate refugees, it is about the PEOPLE… and as the Holy Father reiterates especially the POOR of the world.
Blessing

I am not an advocate for cap and trade (where it has been implemented seems to actually be increasing the greenhouse gases) - and haven’t seen anything on these web sites that promote this as a choice - RATHER - striving to increase awareness, encourage personal choices that can help mitigate, and speaking loudly for the poor - loudly for the CATHOLIC prespective on the value of human life - so obviously NOT advocating population control…
I along with others ] have been telling people here, for years, of the fallacies behind Cap and Trade and Carbon Credit schemes. This is NOT a new teaching…it’s just that it’s new to some people, because it took ClimateGate to help open information…that went repressed. We were shouted down as deniers and skeptics…but now all of a sudden AGW’s are climbing aboard the train…AND most act as ifthey foundthat Cap and Trade was a lie from the start…When it was them who tried to force it apon ALL of the world population.

Lobbyist can not exist without lobbying for laws…That is the nature of the beast.

You personally, are against Cap and Trade…lobbyist - lobby FOR Cap and Trade…carbon credit type schemes…If they don’t - they don’t get funded.

The problem with lobbyists…people think they are poor. Lobbyists are some of the best paid positions available. One of the SWEETESTS jobs in the World.

Actually, I think lobbyists are thieves…especially ones who hide behind issues of the poor…They divert money that could be DIRECTLY used to feed / house the poor…instead of lobbyist fees.

kimmie,

Once again, you may disagree with the Holy Father on climate change, but you cannot keep asserting that he has not explicitly accepted AGW as a reality:

Pope Benedict:

“Can we remain indifferent before the problems associated with such realities as climate change” -2010 World Day of Peace Message vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/peace/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20091208_xliii-world-day-peace_en.html

“Similar attention also needs to be paid to the world-wide problem of water and to the global water cycle system, which is of prime importance for life on earth and whose stability could be seriously jeopardized by climate change.” -2010 World Day of Peace Message vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/peace/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20091208_xliii-world-day-peace_en.html

“Suitable strategies for rural development centred on small farmers and their families should be explored, as well as the implementation of appropriate policies for the management of forests, for waste disposal and for strengthening the linkage between combatting climate change and overcoming poverty.” -2010 World Day of Peace Message vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/peace/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20091208_xliii-world-day-peace_en.html

“I also wish to offer my support to leaders of governments and international agencies who soon will meet at the United Nations to discuss the urgent issue of climate change.” -General Audience, August 26, 2009

“At a time of world food shortage, of financial turmoil, of old and new forms of poverty, of disturbing climate change, of violence and deprivation which force many to leave their homelands in search of a less precarious form of existence, of the ever-present threat of terrorism, of growing fears over the future, it is urgent to rediscover grounds for hope.” -2009 Urbi et Orbi vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/urbi/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20090412_urbi-easter_en.html

“For this reason I share the growing concern caused by economic and political resistance to combatting the degradation of the environment. This problem was evident even recently, during the XV Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Copenhagen from 7 to 18 December last. I trust that in the course of this year, first in Bonn and later in Mexico City, it will be possible to reach an agreement for effectively dealing with this question. The issue is all the more important in that the very future of some nations is at stake, particularly some island states.” -2010 Message to Diplomatic Corps vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2010/january/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20100111_diplomatic-corps_en.html

When it comes to global warming, I judge by my trained meteorological observation, since I am a degreed meteorologist. The church should listen to those like me , not Al Gore.
The thesis of anthropogenic climate change is supported by the following (non-exhaustive) list of scientific bodies:
If you feel that your background qualifies you to challenge the scientific consensus of these bodies, then such is your prerogative. However, the Holy Father and Bishops have accepted this scientific consensus, and have called for faithful climate action to uphold Catholic commitments to care for Creation, give priority to the poor, promote the common good, and engage in solidarity. As the Bishops have said,

“In facing climate change, what we already know requires a response; it cannot be easily dismissed. Significant levels of scientific consensus—even in a situation with less than full certainty, where the consequences of not acting are serious—justifies, indeed can obligate, our taking action intended to avert potential dangers. In other words, if enough evidence indicates that the present course of action could jeopardize humankind’s well-being, prudence dictates taking mitigating or preventative action.” -Global Climate Change: A Plea for Dialogue, Prudence, and the Common Good nccbuscc.org/sdwp/international/globalclimate.shtml

There is no need to challenge these bodies…They do a fantastic job on their own…disproving their theory…

I read through the thread and it appears to be mostly about climate change, not population. But population is the more serious issue. Not overpopulation, but depopulation. It is depopulation that threatens the existence of the human species.

Please quit contorting what the Holy Father and Bishops have said. The Holy Father and Bishops know exacty…the differences between AGW…and climate changes

How does providing direct quotes from Pope Benedict on climate change with links to the Vatican website constitute contortion?

You contorted it…with this
but you cannot keep asserting that he has not explicitly accepted AGW as a reality:
As if the Holy Father has blessed the ideas of AGW…He has not

Your assertation is that Pope Benedict has not accepted anthropogenic climate change as a reality. I have provided you with direct quotes demonstrating that he has in fact accepted anthropogenic climate change as a reality; if he had not, he would not have said, “I also wish to offer my support to leaders of governments and international agencies who soon will meet at the United Nations to discuss the urgent issue of climate change” in his General Audience speech, August 26, 2009 (vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/audiences/2009/documents/hf_ben-xvi_aud_20090826_en.html);😉 referring to the UN’s meeting to address anthropogenic climate change. He would not have offered his support to meetings designed to mitigate a problem which he did not believe was a reality.

Another contortion…The Holy Father is talking of environmental issues…and natural climatic changes…GOOD STEWARDSHIP… NOT some debunked theory…almost a false religion IMHO.

AGW…demands that Man alone controls creation…without that premise…

Look even the “Greeners” have abandoned the term AGW

Question:

Would you lend your support to sex education?
Does that mean you support abortion?

PS: I’ve noticed the trendiness in using the word 'Mitigate"…😃

Show me how Cap and Trade
Carbon credits
Population Control

Mitigates climate

Anyone else see a red herring? Again?

Without explanation, your analogy lacks soundness and validity.

The question to which I would like a response is, “Why would Pope Benedict lend his support to an international meeting designed to mitigate anthropogenic climate change if he did not believe that anthropogenic climate change is a reality?” The premise of the meeting was that anthropogenic climate change is a reality. If he disagreed with this premise, why would he support the meeting?
