Then Biden should “wait”. Instead, he’s doubling down.
I did not hear Biden words on the matter. So I can not comment on what he said. But if he did as you said, Biden is being a politician. He is trying to rile up anger on people to get votes. That is what Politicians DO.

There have been politicians that do NOT do this. Where are they? You do not hear of them. The Media does not “promote” them.

Which three?
– Identify sources clearly. The public is entitled to as much information as possible to judge the reliability and motivations of sources.
The Atlantic did not violate this one. They did disclose as much as possible, given the limitations imposed on them by their sources. The rule you cite would be violated if The Atlantic could have disclosed the sources, but just didn’t.
– Consider sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Reserve anonymity for sources who may face danger, retribution or other harm, and have information that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Explain why anonymity was granted.
We do not know if The Atlantic considered the motives of the sources. It is likely that they would face retribution, and the information was not available except by anonymity. But I will grant that the article was too short and they should have said why they granted anonymity.
– Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.
I don’t think anybody needs to seek very hard to find Trump. He is everywhere it seems. And Trump has had no shortage of responses to the criticism. This rule is more for nobodies that you really do have to search out and give a platform. Trump has the biggest platform in the world.

Here is Bolton’s quote. Not speculation. So stop with the rumor nonsense.

“I didn’t hear him say those things,” he said, adding later he probably would have included the remarks in his book if he had. “Now, did he say those things to other people later in the day? It’s certainly possible.”

Huckabee lies. Not speculation.

BTW, that took all of about 30 seconds to find. If you really want the truth it isn’t hard to find. But you prefer to go off of rumor yourself instead of looking for truth.

Does a Catholic being a politician excuse them from spreading rumor?
I am sure many people have told Catholic politicians the teachings of the Church. If they listen or not, that is up to them. The question for us is different. Do we think they are the arbiters of truth? or is it the church?

One of the rockhard principles of the Church is to play Devil’s Advocate on any given position. Did you do that, or did you just accept Vice’s (who has a clear anti Church bias) word for it?

You provided the quote that clarifies that Bolton was not with Trump all day. I’ll give you that.

The quote in and of itself is still pure speculation on Bolton’s part. Rumor.

How would you handle it?
I have to either listen to my Catholic and non Catholic Trump hating family members spout it off as “fact”, or I can raise the question and deal with the volcanic eruption that ensues. Depends on my mood for the day. Most of the time, I bite my tongue and later vent anonymously from the keyboard.

How about just removing yourself from their political discussions? If you’re not in a position to do that or to go eat your dinner elsewhere, just offer it up for the Poor Souls.

I personally never liked “family dinners” and am very happy to eat by myself as an adult. I hope you too reach a happy point where you can eat somewhere in peace.

Jennifer Griffin of Fox News tweeted:
Jennifer Griffin:
Two former sr Trump admin officials confirm .@JeffreyGoldberg reporting that President Trump disparaged veterans and did not want to drive to honor American war dead at Aisne-Marne Cemetery outside Paris.
So we can add at least two more administration officials. And it is common knowledge that Trump did not want to lower flags to half staff to honor John McCain when he passed away. It is looking less and less like outlandish rumor and more like “Oh, yeah, that’s just Trump being Trump.”

It is still their word against his, and they are not willing to be identified and face him directly. Trump says it did not happen and people close to the circumstances publicly affirm that. According to Church teaching and Holy Writ , that is scandal and rumor.

Trump and McCain HATED each other. McCain was a reckless warmonger of the highest order, while Trump was clearly the most pacifist of the 2016 crop of candidates. McCain’s “war decorations” do not excuse his role in the Steele Dossier or his over the top hatred for Trump in the first place.

Is the very action that led to his being shot down in Vietnam not enough?
Not even close. Being in the military and doing what you are trained and ordered to do is not “warmongering” except to someone who wants to smear them unjustly. And I wouldn’t be so quick to claim “rumor” in defense of someone who outright lies blatantly and repeatedly.
