It’s just one of those things with how the software works. The person posts the thread, but is still typing the poll. So there is a delay before the poll appears. It always happens unless the person is a really fast typist. See, the poll is there now.🙂

I voted for the “actual body and blood of Christ” AND the “symbol” one following. You probably meant the “symbol” meaning that it isn’t the actual Body and Blood of Christ and meant the two choices to be exclusive. But the word symbol doesn’t exlude something from actually being that object as well.

For example, words are symbols of speech. But words actually are how we speak as well.

The Eucharist is the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ. Hence it is also symbolic of the actual body and blood of Christ. But it isn’t just a symbol. 🙂
 
Interesting how some still don’t know the Church’s position on these issues. It’s sad as well, but perhaps it indicates an unwillingness to recognize Church authority on the subjects mentioned. I personally hope that the results simply indicate a lack of knowledge and not outright disobedience.

Lt. symbolum, Gk. sumbolon, token for identification. Not disagreeing with your comments but it is used often, especially non-Catholic churches, in their description of communion, as well as in Catholic discussions. God Bless and thanks for the post.

The population base is to low (48) at this time to gage responses. I had hope that more would vote. The results will assist during discussions at church study groups. I thank you for your vote and post. God Bless

If that said “really present” I’d have no problem answering. But Jesus is present in the Eucharist in a different (sacramental) way than He was present when He washed the feet of the Apostles. Is that what it means by “physically”?

I think it is safe to treat the questions as hypothetical. I.e., you are to put yourself in the position of hte divorced Catholic to answer.

Remember, when the Church teaches the real presence of Christ in the eucharist, they are teaching that the substance of the body and blood of Christ (i.e. the essentials of it, not the accidents) is really present. The only reason he would not be present in the same way as when he washed the Apostles feet is that he has since risen in glory and is present in his transfigured, glorified state.

Yes, all sacrements have multiple natures; one of which is symbolic.

The eastern Catholic Churches have something similar, though I do not believe it is identical.

Can. 989 After having reached the age of discretion, each member of the faithful is ob-liged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year.

Note here, the word grave.
