So since we must look at the mass as if we were at the foot of the Cross we should be sad? When we walk in the doors of the church for mass should we have frowns on our faces and should we cry tears of sorrow? Though this may happen, when you think of Jesus and what he did for us on calvery, doesnt that make you want to shout for joy? Halleliujah, my savior died for me, let me rejoice for he has saved me from my sins. He has opened the doors of Heaven to me and by his grace may I be permitted in. Oh how much joy we should have at the foot of the cross, and how we should shout for joy.

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”
-Galatians 6:14-15 😃
Yes, it is the BEST news we sinners can possibly receive!! AMEN, PRAISE GOD!!! However, at Mass we are at the foot of the cross, we are at the Last Supper, we experience His Resurrection, we are before God— let us stand in awe before our Lord and his saving work to get us home with him!!

Its not good to be sad ALL THE TIME be happy that your Lord is NOT dead but has risen and has come to the earth to die FOR YOU! You should feel SPECIAL. 🙂
I used to and still cry when I see the crucifix sometimes but after I finish meditating and get to the part when I get to the tomb and after what happened 3 days later. GLORY TO GOD !! IM HAPPY ! 😃
dis, I don’t see a problem with exuberant worship as you have been describing however, as someone pointed out above, it is a cultural preference. Both ways. I’m sure Catholics in Argentina worship a bit different than we do in America. If the norm for a particular parish is to not shout then this would be considered its culture. I think God finds true worship in either form when it comes from the heart and I think he would frown if I were to expect the black Catholic church a few miles away from me to not shout because it makes me uncomfortable. Different cultures are good for all of humanity.

Peace!!!

“Sacrosanctum Concilium,” in which are given the norms for adaptation of the liturgy to the character and the traditions of the various peoples:

“In matters which do not affect the faith or the well-being of an entire community, the Church does not wish, even in the Liturgy, to impose a rigid uniformity; on the contrary, she respects and fosters the genius and talents of various races and people. Whatever in their way of life is not indissolubly bound up with superstition and error, she looks upon with benevolence and if possible keeps it intact, and sometimes even admits it into the Liturgy provided it accords with the genuine and authentic liturgical spirit.” [1]

I have had two priests give me two different answers to the question “Is it ok to shout in church like some protestant do?” In my opinon I think its alright but at some parts of the mass it shouldnt be. You see praise breaks in some black catholic churches. Now I believe that Jesus is the center of the mass and our objective is to worship him in the mass however, shouting and praise break is how we worship him, we “praise him through the dance.” I do not believe this is an abuse in the church. I believe the bishop has no problems with it. I also asked a Trindentine Latin Mass Priest his opinion and he said it does not happen at his church but it may happen at churches with a black congregation. I made this thread to see others opinions on this. What do you think? Should people worship God this way? Thank You. 🙂
Praise breaks are a cultural fad that has everything to do with the current music that is being played. It is not universal and does not belong at Mass. There is nothing wrong with a praise break, if one wishes, at a praise service, prayer meeting, Christian concert, etc. Not during the Liturgy of the Word or the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Love me a good praise break.😃

I missed contemporary worship music bands when I converted. If we inserted a praise break, I’d say, after the homily, and before we enter into the Liturgy of the Eucharist. It’s not the cultural norm where I live, so it ain’t gonna happen.

This reminds me of some of the “Life Teen” masses I’ve attended. They can get pretty loud with music and worship. I think it is one of the reasons why the Life Teen organization recommends having these as an altogether separate service when possible. It seems the older generation, in general, don’t care for it.

Peace!!!

JL: Years ago I used to go to a charismatic mass on Saturday. Praise and speaking in tongues was done between the liturgy of the word and Eucharistic liturgy.
