Catholic columnist Matt Abbott writes:A third priest may now have become a victim of the violence and lawlessness in Baghdad. Father Basil Salem Yaldo was last seen leaving a church building in the Dora area of Baghdad. He is the personal secretary to the Catholic Patriarch for Iraq. At the time of his disappearance, a car bomb had exploded in the vicinity and a round-up of suspects took place by Iraqi and Coalition Security Forces. It is not known if Father Basil was taken into custody, is being held for ransom, or worse. The first priest to be abducted was forced to leave the country after being brutalized and then released. The second is still being treated for injuries suffered during weeks of physical and mental abuse. He was released only after a series of ransoms were paid.

Joee in London (via LGF) reports on jihadists threatening Catholics outside Westminster Cathedral today:
Holy Mass on a Sunday is the very source and summit of the Catholic week, so my family decided this Sunday to make the trip to Westminster Cathedral together. As we came out about 100 Islamists were chanting slogans such as “Pope Benedict go to Hell” “Pope Benedict you will pay, the Muja Hadeen are coming your way” “Pope Benedict watch your back” and other hateful things. I’ll post more pictures of it when I get more free time. It was a pretty nasty demonstration. From 11 - 3pm they chanted absurd things, literally just outside the Cathedral. And from 11- 3pm (and indeed all day, every day) like every day of the week, faithful Catholics and non-Catholics (mainly tourists) wondered in and out of the magnificent Church, largely ignoring the furore of hatred this crowd of muslims was trying to stir up… …I feel a bit uneasy posting the above, so any supportive comments would be very much appreciated!

It’s like the bowels of hell have exploded onto the streets and we can see the demons walking among us.

Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Your altar. We are Yours, and Yours we wish to be; but, to be more surely united with You, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known You; many too, despising Your precepts, have rejected You. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Your Sacred Heart.

You are King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken You, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned You; grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

You are King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof; call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.

You are King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry or of Islamism; refuse not to draw them all into the light and kingdom of God. Turn Your eyes of mercy toward the children of that race, once Your chosen people. Of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Savior; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.

Grant, O Lord, to Your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and Honor forever. Amen.

I think you need to take some deep breaths and get some perspective. There are angry people - probably who shouldn’t be so angry, but just angry people. They are not demons and they are not from ‘the bowels of hell’. It is very irresponsible to use such hyperbole.

You may find that car bombs were going off in Iraq before the Pope’s comments.

Well, err, yes. It looks like the police had the whole thing under control. To those who don’t know Westminster Cathedral, there is a very large area outside. They could be ‘literally outside’ and yet quite far away. And behind barriers. As apparently happened with everyone else, I wouldn’t have been bothered about going in if I’d been there this week.

And what they were saying doesn’t look especially different from the nonsense that we’ve put up with from Ian Paisley’s lot for over 30 years.

And that blogger had a very good point:
Further, Christ gives us a difficult commandment (Mt 5:28) that even to think of evil is as bad as committing it.
We should bear that in mind, methinks.
