There is nothing wrong with flagging what could be potentially uncivil and the moderators are ultimately in charge.

There is, if it’s something that wasn’t even said, and that was already cleared up. The moderators have enough to do taking care of real issues.

I would say that I am in the church to follow God and that hasn’t changed. I will look to the Light that casts out all darkness and stay with the Church that gives me Jesus in the Eucharist. I will pray to Jesus to correct and punish the guilty, comfort the victims and defend the innocent. I will do my part by penance and reparation for the sins committed by me and all men. I will pray that He will send us wisdom to approach all of this in the right way for the sake of all. What I will not do is repay evil for evil. I will not become discouraged and instead be more determined than ever to be the person God wants me to be.
I said a lot of this for me too because you see I was a victim of sexual abuse as a child, not by a priest, but I let it destroy most of my life and I repaid evil with more evil and led an immoral life. That wasn’t the answer. I learned that this year and I am so blessed that Jesus loved me enough to cancel out that sin explained to me so well by one holy devout priest. ( See there are good things happening too) a catholic priest helped this victim. It hasn’t been easy and I have had failings but I will stick with what I know to be the church that was created by God. Hang in there with the One True Holy Church. You won’t regret it. It will survive and become better for it. God will use this evil for good. God Bless.

Some people post before they get through the rest of the thread.
Guilty as charged. I responded to the post I read, didn’t realize it had already been clarified. My apologies for the misunderstanding @ConstantLearner

May God Bless you and keep you strong in Faith so your light shines on another!

this is really just a continuation of what happened in the early 2000s. Enemies of the Church deliberately did not launch investigations into all Diocese at the same time because they wanted this to go on for a long time.
Thank God but it gives all the rest to come clean without getting a Grand Jury involved.
if people would spend the time to investigate the public school system for the same time periods, I wonder what they would find? But no one wants to turn over that stone.
That is not material to our situation. It is like a little kid. He did it to!
this is a “perfect storm” if you will.
This is an attack by the devil against the church and he uses human weaknesses to attack. We need prayer and penance like the Pope and many others have said.
And a few others had a shaky background or simply failed.
Peter denied Christ and Thomas doubted. We all have sinned but they both repented and died for Christ.
we can be assured that at least 1374 Bishops are screwing up on a regular basis.
They all fail but it is not a numbers game.
The Catholic Church does not protect us from bad priests and bad bishops. We will always have Judases. But she does give us a standard to know the truth and to be able to recognize when our leaders fail.
Agree.

Thank you… I pray for this also. I have a lot to learn and pray that I do the will of God and give Him all the glory after failing Him so miserably all these years. Blessed be God

I don’t think NYT is a barometer of anything but East Coast liberalism these days. I can tell you in Ohio where I’m from, apart from a few rich doctors and bankers, nobody gives a flip what the New York Times says.

I don’t doubt that’s how you see things or that Ohio is a very important swing state, probably the most important, but I have family and friends there who read the NYT faithfully, along with other newspapers that are more conservative. Troy Balderson (R) barely squeaked by Danny O’Conner (D) in the recent election. Ohio is not a Deep Red state, though it did go for Trump. It’s mixed right now, actually kind of purple. How the 2018 mid-terms will go is anyone’s guess.

I’m guessing your friends, if not wealthy, are educated or have some sort of “cultural capital”.

I don’t think the families I see at Grandpa’s Cheese Barn, or in many parts of Michigan or Pennsylvania, fall in the same category with your family and friends. There are reasons why Trump won all of those states.

However, I know from experience that some people have the NYT up on a pedestal with vintage Walter Cronkite and it’s pointless for me to argue against it. I have hated the NYT from a very young age. I was Team WaPo all the way, and still am to some extent when they run well-written pieces and not Eli Saslow emo dribble.

Then Balderson should have won in a landslide, and he didn’t. I don’t even know if the vote’s final yet, but I believe he did squeak by. But barely, and the part of that district in Columbus went for O’Conner.

But all that’s off-topic. The thread’s not political. I think the bishops in Ohio do a very good job. The bishop in Columbus is exemplary.

The Church needs to do a better job of screening candidates for the seminary, and it needs to stop covering up even one incident of abuse.
I was reading a book when I came across this info I had no idea about.
Just sharing it,so as to know about entries to seminaries.
In about 2010,in my Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, only 40% of the candidates where admitted.
Not to say anything wrong or damaging in the least about those persons who weren t,hope they are happy and well with a different life than priesthood, but in my mind,I thought that the percentage of admitted in was higher.
So for whatever reason, the entrance to these seminaries seems to be quite thoughtful or analyzed. Again,I would have thought the percentage was much higher…Not sort of " desperate" to catch whoever reaches the door…

No, the Church does not seem desperate to accept “just anyone.”

Honestly, I have no idea what the problem is. I know in Ohio, where I have family and friends, the bishops seem exemplary. They also seem exemplary here in LA where I live. Very dedicated, very serious.
